Today we’d like to introduce you to Yesenia Carrasquillo.
Hi Yesenia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a professional Master braider and Braid Instructor. I started from the bottom in 2017 taking clients at home and doing house calls in Orlando, FL. June 2018 Via Instagram I wrote @shakirag to do her braids at the time she was the wife of an urban Latin singer Jon Z and she said yes! I offered to do her braids for free and drove 18 hours in exchange for a promo to do her braids. She was so in love with her braids that she ended up paying me and she did such an amazing promo for me and that was a turning point in my braid career. I continued to travel for her and had the opportunity to work with other famous models and influencers such as Instagram influencer @aggyabby and recently I had the opportunity to style Daddy Yankee’s famous “shaky shaky” Professional Dancer @Lumariedancer.
In 2020 in the midst of a pandemic, I finally opened up my first braid lounge @The Braid Lounge Orlando LLC. This year I relaunched Braided By Jessy Collection with our new advanced products 100% natural hair growth oil “Braid Juice and our new product 100% natural “Hydrating Mist”. I launched in March 2022 with a launch event in Orlando, FL. I also went on a Braid Tour this year, traveling to numerous cities and states such as NYC, Atlanta, Miami, and Los Angeles, California! We enjoyed the west coast so much that I will start taking clients in both Los Angeles and Orlando and we definitely will see a Braid Lounge in L.A. in the very near future.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Many sacrifices for Big Rewards! There was a time i had no money to purchase supplies or even business cards but I would always figure it out! I worked harder and I risked everything and it has been worth it all!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in all Braid Styles; however, I would say I’m most known for my box braids and festival styles! There also my favorite styles to do! Box Braids is a very bold hairstyle so When a client gets box braids done it just brings out a different attitude in her. It’s a spark of confidence instantly! I also love all the creativity that comes with festival braids, the glitters, the lights the accessories‼️
I am most proud of my students! Many of my students never braided in their life and they come to class with fear and doubt that they won’t learn so it’s my job as an educator to make sure they leave with the confidence and skills they need to become great braider. When I see them starting, they’re journey and opening their Instagram and posting their work, taking clients that’s definitely one of my most proud moments in my career.
How do you think about happiness?
Knowing that I wake up every day with a purpose and that the service I provide to my clients changes lives, boosts egos, and gives women and men confidence! That the students I teach now have an extra way to earn an income and can now provide more for their family! That’s what makes me happy!
