Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Rhodes.
Victoria, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born in Georgia and raised in Bakersfield, California. After my family’s emergency relocation back to Georgia in 2004, I spent several years there before deciding to return to California in 2022—a move that felt like coming home. Following the pandemic, I made the decision to leave the corporate world and fully pursue my lifelong dream of becoming an Art Director in film and television. My journey into this field began unexpectedly in 2019, when I was asked to create the nativity play—an assignment traditionally handled by our drama department coordinator. Being entrusted with that responsibility opened my eyes to the world of art direction and the power of visual storytelling. Bringing my own vision to life for the first time was an unforgettable experience, and from that moment on, I knew I would do whatever it takes to turn this passion into a lifelong career.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road hasn’t always been smooth. In the beginning, I didn’t have anyone in my circle who had experienced the journey I was preparing to embark on, which made the path feel uncertain. I was very protective of my dream and hesitant to let family and friends get too involved, especially since many of them believed in the more traditional route of college followed by a stable office job. My goals didn’t fit that mold, and it took time for me to find the confidence to pursue something different. One of the greatest challenges was building a strong support system—finding people who understood and shared my creative vision. Over time, through faith, perseverance, and the grace of God, I began to connect with a community of like-minded creatives who have become both friends and collaborators. Their encouragement has been instrumental in helping me stay grounded and continue growing in my craft.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As an art director, I am passionate about transforming imagination into tangible, immersive experiences. My work centers on building worlds that people can only dream of—concepts that transcend the ordinary and invite audiences to see, feel, and connect with something entirely new.
I specialize in creative direction, visual storytelling, and crafting cohesive aesthetics that bridge emotion and design. Whether developing a campaign, shaping a brand identity, or leading a multidisciplinary team, I aim to push creative boundaries and bring visionary ideas to life with purpose and precision.
What I’m most proud of is my ability to inspire and lead creative teams toward a unified vision—turning abstract ideas into vivid realities that leave a lasting impact. What sets me apart is not just my design sensibility, but my relentless drive to innovate—to build worlds that didn’t exist before, yet feel as though they always should have.
How do you think about luck?
‘Luck’ or what I like to call ‘Grace’ has played a meaningful role in my journey—particularly in the incredible opportunities I’ve had to collaborate with some of the most talented directors and writers in the industry. From the very beginning of my career, I’ve been fortunate to work alongside visionaries such as Landi Maduro @landi.maduro, Briana Marshell Bernal @bre0506, Melvin Jackson Jr. @melvinjacksonjr, Mark Orlov @_markorlov, Cristina V Sasso @sassymakesfilms, Anthony Roberson Jr. @arobfilms, Tyler Ocasio Holmes @bytyholmes, Alexis Rivera @alexisvrivera, Gabriella Font @gabbyfont, Jonathan Rowan @supastarproductionz, Mario Corona @mario_corona_, and Millie Cupp @milliemakesmovies. Each of them has not only inspired me but has also helped shape my creative perspective and elevate my craft and set the bar high!
I consider it a privilege to have learned from such exceptional leaders whose passion, vision, and artistry have made my own creative dreams a reality. Their influence has been instrumental in my growth as an art director, and I carry those experiences with immense gratitude. I truly hope to have the opportunity to collaborate with them again soon and continue building worlds that captivate and inspire. A special thank you to my Auntie Tita, Uncle James, Auntie Kiki, Uncle Cal, Uncle Ilu, Papa, Grandma, Pastor and First Lady, Mr. Reggie, Kiara, cousins, God siblings, friends and my ENTIRE family for opening your homes and hearts and supporting me and my dreams!
