Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Vega.

Hi Vanessa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It truly started as a teen. I always knew I loved the beauty industry. I would clean up my friends and families brows. The only thing is, I had children young and was a single mom always working so I didn’t really have the option to pursue what I really loved. That all changed once I got with my now husband and COVID hit. I was on maternity leave with my youngest and all the schools closed. My husband and I were faced with the harsh reality that we have three kids fully at home with two of them doing virtual learning and there’s no way we would afford childcare if I went back to work. As much as I enjoyed working I was forced to call it quits and stay at home. I love my children but I learned very quickly I didn’t love being a stay at home. I used this opportunity and my savings to invest in a brow course, which led to more courses and more services. I was home bound trying to survive on referrals. When COVID finally allowed salons to open back up, I decided it was game time and found a place to rent and well its 4 years later and I am still open for business. I survived a pandemic, I am ready to survive many more years to come.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It is never a smooth road for small business owners. Especially if you started in the middle of a pandemic. It is always a battle of building clientele and awareness. In my industry it is always an up and down battle. One week is booming, the next is ghost town, the next is decent and so forth and so forth. The marketing world is constantly changing so having to adapt is the real battle.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a 5 star beauty salon in Bixby Knolls, I specialize in permanent makeup, lash lifts, teeth whitening and tooth gems.

Permanent makeup has since become hugely popular worldwide. What we offer is ombre Powder Brows and Lip Blushing. This is done with a single needle tattoo gun to achieve soft powdered brows and naturally tinted lip that last 1-5 years.

We also offer training courses for those wanting to learn, open their own business and become an artist themselves.

I am best known for all my services especially brows, lashes and tooth gems.

I am beyond proud to be a business owner of a beautiful beauty salon that is mine, that I have free range to create a warm welcoming area for my clientele to feel safe and beautiful in.

I am a very transparent person in all aspects of my life which is what I think sets me apart from others. I have no problem being completely open and honest regardless if it may or may not be what my clients want to hear. Setting their expectations ahead of time eliminates any confusion, unrealistic expectations on results and guarantees satisfied clients. As their artist, their happiness is my happiness.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I love watching other artists in my field at work. It’s not only inspiring, helpful but keeps me up on any new techniques. Though what may work for others may not work for me or what works for me may not be what works for others, it’s still really interesting to watch other business succeeding in something they too love doing. As for personally, I think staying mentally, spiritually, physically and energetically balanced is so important and often gets forgotten along our chaotic lives. Working out, doing crosswords, taking some alone quiet time to reground myself are all things that I do to help. I wish I could recommend a podcast or a blog but sitting outside with nature is more therapeutic than being on any electronic.
