Today we’d like to introduce you to TOMTOM.
Hi TOMTOM, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Music has always been in my life from when I was born escaping my crazy family especially my abusive drug user father. When my mom finally gave up on him and moved away things changed. My step dad came into our lives. Eventually I move with my step grandpa in Redondo beach. Thats a short story of how I got to Redondo, but with so much trauma in my life I grew up quick and music was always there. Walkman everyday type of guy even in school. Just kept me sane. I played around with hiphop on vinyl decks when I was 14yrs old, and fell in love but definitely couldn’t afford my own so I just played when I can on other friends gear. Just for fun but Eventually I started dabbling alot more and started producing Mashups. Then life happened. So much expenses and so little time. So I stop for yrs and got a job and got serious. Eventually around 2017 I started messing around again on the decks and haven’t looked back since. My story is long and painful for me to talk about but music has always been there to either lift me up or others around me. I always shared music with others and love discovering new feelings in songs. Now I hire djs for my openers at bars, clubs, festivals, events etc. I feel as if this community is the right fit for me and will continue to grow and help other grow. Music is my life and always will be!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not easy at all. Losing homes, losing gear, going to jail, so much drama around me, rumors and just hate everywhere but eventually I found my people and got to be guided down the right paths for a better easier life. Drugs were a big deal for me to get over it, either selling them or using but never ready an addict so I didnt hit rock bottom or anything but always a struggle to find the next dinner. Music always in my ears, even with a empty stomach but still had to work hard recycling picking up side jobs or anything just to get by…
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
