Today we’d like to introduce you to Tali Leda
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was adopted as a baby by a loving but traditional, non-musical New York family. I suppressed my musical talent for many years until I found my birth mom on my 30th birthday. When I reunited with my birth mom, I discovered I had all these musical genes. My birth mom was a singer, my birth dad (who I have never met) graduated from the prestigious Manhattan School of Music and is a composer and plays the bass and the piano, and my maternal grandfather was a percussionist for the Boston Symphony for more than twenty years. This reunion inspired me to pursue my love of music and do what I secretly longed for later in life.
I gave up my secure job, which paid the bills but made me stressed and depressed. When I finally decided to pursue a music career, I shared this news with my parents and my sisters and they had a lot of trouble supporting me. They thought I had talent, but felt I was too old to start a music career and I was being unrealistic and a dreamer. I am grateful my birth mom, several close friends, and my cousins believed in my abilities and pushed me to continue making music.
Through hard work and perseverance, I wrote or co-wrote and co-produced original pop music featuring me on lead vocals and was fortunate to have several of these songs on major TV shows and in indie films. A few of my notable placements include Shameless, Charmed, and Madam Secretary.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have had some serious challenges along the way. About a year after I started pursuing a music career, my dad passed away suddenly. I moved back to New York from Los Angeles to help my mom out for six months. When I moved back to LA and was in the process of getting my music career going again, unfortunately, I got bit by a dog at a job and became chronically ill for years. I couldn’t perform live gigs or record music for several years. I was also incredibly stressed financially because I could only work very part-time. I wrote a song about these struggles titled Standstill. Thankfully, I am doing much better now.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a soulful singer/songwriter who plays piano. I write a distinctive blend of pop music – melding electronic and organic sounds with lush vocal harmonies.
I am most proud of my original songs featured on the TV shows Shameless, Charmed, and Shark.
What sets me apart is I started my music career much later in life than most musicians, and finding my birth mom and discovering that music was part of my DNA fueled me to pursue my passion. Soon after that discovery, I quit my day job, taught myself piano and songwriting, collaborated with guitarists, and never looked back!
What makes you happy?
Being with positive, supportive people outdoors in the sunshine at a peaceful beach with a beautiful ocean or on a fun trip or adventure like white water rafting brings me joy.
Collaborating with other musicians, songwriters, and producers who are exceptionally talented and creatively in synch with me is fulfilling.
Having my music appreciated by fans and on acclaimed TV shows and films is incredibly rewarding.
