Today we’d like to introduce you to Spenser Judd.
Hi Spenser, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hello, my name’s Spenser Judd and I’m a freelance videographer and editor based in Culver City, CA. I graduated with a Broadcast Journalism degree from Cal Poly SLO in 2019 and started my own multi-media outlet called Clear Vision Collective after graduating.
Throughout my life I’ve immersed myself in DIY music communities, local activist groups, and live productions by hosting events, setting up in-studio radio performances, and publishing a bi-monthly print magazine. A calling to help capture the moment and document culture in motion has led me to follow my passions as a journalist and team leader.
During the past 4 years working with Clear Vision Collective, I’ve fostered professional media skills as the outlet’s media manager, lead reporter/photographer, video editor, event organizer and creative director.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Finding my path a freelancer and founder of Clear Vision Collective has been a dynamic journey. My passion for documenting the moment and acting as a community organizer has led me to take on multiple roles throughout my post-college life. Similar to the themes found in the movie “Everything, Everywhere All At Once”, I’ve felt the ability to simultaneously accomplish multiple timelines or creative routes as a Videographer, Journalist, AV Tech, Event Planner and Social Media Manager with CVC, yet struggles arise when resources like time and energy are overlooked and lead to burnout or stagnation. Having a team and creative network can help balance the workload as a freelancer as well as open the doors to new opportunities and collaborations.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m SpaceyY, a lo-fi psych rock musician, freelance journalist and co-founder of Clear Vision Collective.
I specialize in videography, concert photography, event planning, and editing with a drive to bring fellow visionaries together through collaboration over competition. I’m beyond grateful to follow my passions as a lover of DIY culture and feel proud of all the experiences I’ve been able take part in. Over the 3 years of living in LA, I’ve booked 200+ bands across the city, published a bi-monthly print zine full of interviews, concert photos, and local activism, and organized free community festivals like “Feel the Waves” and “Up and Away” in Long Beach. Above all, “ripples are real”. It’s a full circle feeling exploring LA throughout my youth, coming out to concerts as a fan to being behind the camera and onstage documenting my favorite bands, artists and friends.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Living in the present and cherishing the memories we all create on the daily makes me happy. As a creative, I really value bringing people together to celebrate their passions and have an opportunity to connect with others while making new memories. Capturing these moments and giving the gift of community is how I find happiness.
