Check Out Shwesmo (Yoel Genin)’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shwesmo (Yoel Genin).

Hi Shwesmo, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My musical journey travels through a lot of genres. As a kid, I would sit in front of the piano and write random funny songs with my sister which we both laugh about and still remember today. At 12, I discovered the guitar and decided it was my instrument of choice. I got into  classic rock bands such as Guns N Roses, but heavier music like Linkin Park and System of a Down pulled me down the Metal road pretty fast. My interest in complex and challenging music let me to the Prog Metal scene and later on through Jazz and world music, and finally landed in the Electronic music realm, where all sonic possibilities are open. Nowadays I try to combine all of those influences into the electronic music context and try to have as much fun and creativity through it.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Never. There’s always the question of “is this piece of music good enough?” “is it up to my standards of what I would expect from artists that I admire”? For example, it took me about three years of deeply studying electronic music until I thought my music production skills were up to par with my expectations.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’d like to believe I am a musician that breaks boundaries and creates musical bridges in places where it hasn’t been done before. I always try to create something new that would take the music world forward just a bit if I can. All that of course while keeping loyal to musicality and making sure the music is melodic, fun and soulful.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters to me the most is being able to communicate my feelings, stories, and ideas through my music to anyone who wants to listen. I feel like sharing something so intimate that you put your heart and soul into with whole world is something very special. Especially nowadays where media platforms are able to reach basically anywhere on the planet.
