Today we’d like to introduce you to Shay Merchav
Hi Shay, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Beauty Beach Lounge was a natural progression of starting from the bottom and making my way up to the top. I started my career in Beverly Hills where I greeted people as they walked up the stairs. I made my way up to shampooing, to assisting, and finally becoming a Beverly Hills stylist on Rodeo Drive. Inside I always wanted more, though it was never a dream to own my own salon salon when I started. But here I am living the dream that I didn’t even know that I had.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think when things are supposed to happen, they pretty much go smoothly. I always feel like if you’re fighting tooth and nails for every little thing then it’s not the right path. That’s not to say that Beauty Beach Lounge was built on smooth sailing. My partner Jen and I had a lot of obstacles to overcome. We were fired from the salon. We had worked at which caused a lot of stress. My partner and I built Beauty Beach Lounge with every penny that we personally owned in a location that required what most small business can produce. There was a lot of obstacles to overcome. But here we are.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I personally still work behind the chair almost 5 days a week. I’m known for my flawless extensions and layered haircuts. I have gotten to learn from some of the top stylist in Los Angeles and I’m forever grateful for everything that they’ve taught me. I think the thing that I’m most proud of is the relationship my business partner and I have to this day. I couldn’t do any of this without her. I wouldn’t want to do any of this without her. I’ve yet to meet partnership as solid as ours. I think the thing that really sets us apart from others is our family dynamic in the Salon. You walk in there and you want to be a part of it. I just find that so beautiful.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
The biggest credit I can give is to my business partner. Like I said before, there is no Beauty Beach Lounge without her.
And to my mom, for being my biggest cheerleader in life.
