Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharmaine “Nuenuee” Johnson

Hi Sharmaine “Nuenuee”, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Meet Sharmaine “Nuenuee” Johnson, a talented freelance writer, media correspondent, and upcoming podcast host based in the vibrant city of Los Angeles, California. Drawing upon her diverse background and educational accomplishments, Sharmaine received a Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Health Services from Western Michigan University and a Master’s degree in Nonprofit Leadership and Management from Walden University.

During her transformative transition from student to professional in 2017, After recognizing that the negativity in her mind and reality stemmed from the negativity she fed herself through her surroundings and the media she ingested, she decided to convert to PositiviTEA instead. This ignited her journey of sharing positive stories through blogging and media.
Knowing that there are people out there who are also struggling with the transition from negative to positive she created The Nuesstand where she combined her passion for changing her mindset, music, pop culture, health, wellness, and giving back to the community.

In 2018, Sharmaine’s talents were recognized, and she was invited to contribute her positive content and unique interviewing skills to a local media outlet called Pretty Hustlaz. It was during this experience that her love for journalism flourished.

Determined to further her media career, Sharmaine relocated to Los Angeles in 2019, taking a leap of faith and pursuing her dreams. Without the support of a media company, she took the initiative to elevate her platform called The Nuesstand, which has since become a hub for circulating purposeful and uplifting content related to pop culture, beauty, wellness, fashion, and motivation. The Nuesstand caters to individuals striving to maintain a positive and healthy lifestyle while embracing the power of personal growth.

Over the past five years, Sharmaine has established herself as a prominent media personality, covering prestigious events such as the Daytime Emmys, NAACP Image Awards, and Essence Festival. Through insightful interviews, she has engaged with A-list talents including Tabitha Brown, Nelly, Eric Bellinger, Dreezy, Kevin Gates, BIA, and Crystal Hayslett. Sharmaine’s work can currently be found in renowned publications such as Blavity, 21Ninety, The Jasmine Brand, REVOLT TV, and 247 Live Culture Magazine.

At the core of Sharmaine’s aspirations is her vision to merge her love for positivity and pop culture with philanthropy. Her ultimate goal is to create a media outlet that casts a spotlight on the positiviTEA in all aspects of media, shedding light on the positive changes occurring within pop culture and our community. By doing so, she redefines the concept of “spilling the tea,” delivering news and insights that inspire and uplift others.

Join Sharmaine on her dynamic journey as she continues to make a meaningful impact through her vibrant storytelling, insightful interviews, and dedication to celebrating the positive aspects of our culture and society.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road at all. During my pursuit of a full-time career in media and moving from Miami to LA I have experienced lots of loss and discomfort. I’ve lost friends I thought would be around forever, I’ve been rejected for more opportunities than I can even count, and being away from my family hasn’t gotten easier at all and I am five years in now. My biggest struggle as an up-and-coming journalist and woman in media in LA was figuring out how to find and submit for events. It took me 2 years to finally come across someone willing to share that information with me and show me the ropes and processes of how things work. I didn’t go to school for journalism so I had no idea what I was doing, I just had a dream in mind. I reached out to several women in positions and asked questions to people who were in the industry only to be left on read or told “You have to put in the work” when that was in fact what I was trying to do. I realized then that this is a competitive and if I want it I’m going to have to persevere and trust God’s timing and direction.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a freelance multimedia journalist as seen in REVOLT TV, Blavity, 21Ninety, The Jasmine Brand, and 247 Live Culture. I specialize in telling positive stories that encourage, inspire, and promote positivity. I am known for my #PositiviTEA slogan and focusing on positive stories only sets me apart. Most outlets/bloggers are willing to write or ask anything for clicks and views but I pride myself on having integrity and creating content that will motivate and encourage. The media world is saturated with negativity and things that aren’t healthy or valuable to the readers but at The Nuesstand we only report positive news and we focus on turning negatives into positives.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
The books that I’ve read that have helped me are 7 Spiritual Laws of Success and THE BIBLE. Baby, get in your Bible. We search the world for all of these answers and the answers are right there in the word. In addition to that, I also listen to the Deeper Church podcast and listen to the Lighthouse Church sermons by Pastor Keion Henderson on Youtube. Without being grounded in the spirit I am in shambles. When I am off of my schedule of praying, reading my word, and spending time with God I am always anxious, worried, or something. Pouring into my spirit consistently keeps me centered, present, and able to do my best in life.
