Check Out Roberta Holts’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roberta Holts

Roberta, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve worked with At Risk Youth & Youth Impacted By The Justice System in L.A. County’s Probation Department for more than 3 decades & always felt the need to do more. Once I noticed who, needed the help & what was needed, it was second nature for me to venture out on my own to educate, encourage, motivate & inspire the youth.

I came up with the idea & concept in 2000. I had been listening to Steve Harvey on the morning radio station here in Los Angeles. He spoke about ‘dreaming big & jumping.’ He said there is no time like the present & the time will never be perfect. If you want to change things & make a difference, just JUMP! Start somewhere & do something! You never know what you’re capable of if you don’t try.

When God gives you a vision, act on it!

Thus, I created a business plan & took it to my Pastor at the time. We met, he read it & I explained my vision to him. I initially wanted my own location, but he insisted I start immediately at the church & work with the youth at the church school.

I did & the rest is history. Through the years, I was appointed the Youth Director at 3 churches & enjoyed every leg of this journey.
Working with the Youth Impacted by the Justice System & the At Risk Youth has given me a internal view of how the youth behave before they enter the system, how they behave while they’re in the system & what changes, if any have occured once they return to the community.

The key for me is loving what I do, being sincere, having a listening ear, being empathetic, holding individuals accountable for their actions, being firm but fair & loving them through the entire process.

We all have needed help with something at some point in our lives. Some of us need a little more guidance & patience than others.

When I see a void, I fill it & help individuals grow & glow with pride knowing they can accomplish whatever they put their minds to.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing is ever smooth sailing all of the time.
When I first did my paperwork in order to have a 501(c)(3) non profit entity, I had no clue that I needed to send the paperwork & funds to the State & Federal. I only applied with the state & felt quite accomplished. Little did I know I only did half of what was required & I didn’t know there were yearly fees that had to be paid, even if I wasn’t making any money.

Yes, I was working with the youth, using my own money & had no idea I still had to file business taxes every year, even though I wasn’t making any money.
Thus, my business was suspended & eventually dissolved.

I had to do some additional research & come back stronger, so I thought. I then had someone do my paperwork to have another non profit created. That was short lived because that person wasn’t credible & I again had a business dissolved.

I never lost my vision & continued working with youth & spending my own money. Near the beginning of COVID, I decided I wanted to really delve into my vision & created Nomo Tears Consulting, Incorporated.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
