Pratibha Singh

Hi Pratibha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I arrived in the United States in 2014. It felt like I was going through an interview process. I got married, and my husband had already been living there, although not for a very long time. Back in India, I was quite independent and held a managerial position. However, upon coming here, the visa situation became a significant concern. At that time, I couldn’t believe I might not be able to work, as dependent visas (H-4) didn’t allow employment for spouses. My husband was supportive and suggested that we could always return if I didn’t like it. However, I had already left my job, and the prospect of finding employment again after returning was daunting. So, I decided to research my options. Unfortunately, there were no courses related to my field in the US at that time. Eventually, I enrolled in a program at UCSC Extension that allowed me to study on an F-1 visa, which also granted one year of Optional Practical Training (OPT) for work. Given my non-technical background, finding a job outside the tech industry was challenging, especially with visa restrictions. Many agencies offering H-1B sponsorship were not trustworthy.

I realized I had only one year to study and explore my options. During this time, the H-4 EAD rule was introduced, allowing spouses to work if their partner filed for a green card. Fortunately, we were eligible for this, and I could finally work legally. After this, I was able to work in top tech companies like Google, Amazon & Walmart. While working, I came across Interviewkickstart, where I started taking behavioral interview sessions and became a career coach on a part-time basis. I am very fortunate to so far helped more than 10K+ candidates to land their dream jobs and fulfill their career aspirations.

Few years ago, I started my Instagram page for my love of fashion as @momlovefashion that lead me to valuable connections. I participated in MydreamTV Mrs India and won the title. I emerged as a winner among 23 participants as Mrs. India 2023 and also as the first runner-up for Mydream TV Worldwide Popular. Being a fitness enthusiast and fashion lover, I always believe in keeping a balance. Keeping the right balance in my professional and personal life is a must, and that’s why I started my YouTube channel for healthy recipes @foodmania09. Here, I share easy and quick recipes made for moms who are health-conscious and love to try new recipes.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest challenge here in the US as an immigrant is the visa situation. We constantly need to evaluate our priorities to see if we are making the right move. Visa situation is very tough in the United States, and most of the people here has to spend numerous years in the hope of getting permanent citizenship.

How do you think about happiness?
My happiness is when people appreciate my content and share and save my recipes, reels, etc.
