Check Out Pink Pepper’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanyakorn Rungpunyajinda.

Hi Tanyakorn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Tanya and Pepsi, and I’m the owner of Pink Pepper Thai Restaurant in Hollywood.
Pink Pepper has been around since 1988,
and I took over the restaurant in September 2022.

For me, this journey has been very hands-on.
Since taking over, I’ve been involved in almost every part of the business, from operations and finance to marketing, branding, and menu development.

Running an independent restaurant in Los Angeles definitely comes with challenges,
but it has also been very rewarding.

What drew me to Pink Pepper was that it already had history and a place in the neighborhood, but I also felt there was a lot of room to grow and bring fresh energy to it.

I wanted to keep the heart of what people already loved,
while also helping the restaurant feel more vibrant, more memorable,
and more connected to the Hollywood community around us.

Over time, I’ve learned that owning a restaurant is not just about serving food. It’s about creating an experience, building relationships with customers, and finding ways to keep improving every day. It’s been a big learning experience, but I’m proud of how far we’ve come and excited about where Pink Pepper is going next.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road.

Running an independent restaurant comes with challenges every day,
especially in Los Angeles where competition is high and costs can add up quickly.

One of the biggest challenges has been balancing everything at once.
As an owner, you’re not just thinking about the food.

You’re also thinking about staffing, operations, costs, marketing, customer experience, and making sure the business stays healthy. There are always things happening behind the scenes that people don’t see.

Another challenge has been figuring out how to grow while still staying true to what makes Pink Pepper special. I wanted to bring fresh energy to the restaurant, but also respect the history and the customers who have supported it for years. That balance has been really important.

Of course, there have been stressful moments, but I think that’s part of the journey with any small business. A lot of it has been learning as I go, staying flexible, and continuing to move forward even when things feel uncertain.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I own and run Pink Pepper Thai Restaurant in Hollywood, so my work is really a little bit of everything.
I’m involved in operations, menu development, branding, marketing, and making sure the overall guest experience feels right.

What I care about most is creating a restaurant that people remember. Obviously the food comes first, and we’re known for bold Thai flavors and dishes like Khao Soi, Pad Thai, and curries, but I also think people remember how a place feels. I want Pink Pepper to feel welcoming, full of personality, and connected to the Hollywood neighborhood around it.

What I’m most proud of is being able to keep building on the restaurant’s history while also bringing fresh energy to it. Pink Pepper was already special, and I’ve tried to keep that heart while helping it grow into something even stronger.

I think what sets us apart is that we have our own personality. We’re not trying to be generic. We want people to come in, enjoy great food, and feel like they found a place that has real character.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is building something meaningful and making sure it lasts.

I want Pink Pepper to be more than just a restaurant.
I want it to be a place people enjoy, remember, and feel connected to.

I care a lot about quality, consistency, and creating a good experience for people.
I also think community really matters. When people choose to come back,
bring their friends, or make your restaurant part of their routine, that means a lot.

For me, it’s important that Pink Pepper keeps growing, but still feels personal, warm, and true to itself.
