Check Out Oluwadara Olaoluwa’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Oluwadara Olaoluwa.

Hi Oluwadara, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was introduced to music at a very young age through church, growing up as a pastor’s kid in Nigeria. Music was always around me, and I became fascinated with instruments early on; especially the drums. I was the kid constantly trying to learn rhythms, play in church, and understand how music made people feel.
Even though I later earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering, deep down I knew I wanted a different kind of life. I respected engineering, but I couldn’t see myself spending my entire future in a career I wasn’t truly passionate about. Around that time, a friend introduced me to FL Studio, and everything changed. What started as curiosity quickly became obsession. I spent countless hours teaching myself production, songwriting, and recording, and I realized music was the first thing that made me feel fully aligned with my purpose.
In 2023, shortly after getting married, I moved to Oakland, California after receiving my American visa. Before relocating, I had already been accepted into a few music schools in Los Angeles, and later that year I enrolled at the Los Angeles College of Music to deepen my knowledge of music production and recording, while also trying to find my place within the music industry in the U.S.
I made it a point to attend every program, workshop, and opportunity I could find. Beyond school, I focused heavily on building real relationships with creatives, producers, artists, and engineers throughout Los Angeles. Those relationships became the foundation of my career in the States. Within a couple of years, I had worked on records that accumulated millions of streams on Spotify, and I began gaining recognition for my production and songwriting style.
For me, the journey has really been about faith, consistency, relationships, and being willing to start over in a completely new environment to chase something I truly believed in.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Pursuing music full-time in Los Angeles came with a lot of financial pressure and uncertainty, especially as an immigrant trying to build a career from scratch. Even though I received scholarship support at the Los Angeles College of Music, there came a point where I had to pause school because I couldn’t afford the tuition anymore.
Around that time, I landed an internship at Clearlake Recording Studios and Fever Recording Studios, which became a huge turning point for me. The environment was incredibly supportive, and having access to studio time allowed me to bring artists in, build my catalog, and sharpen my production and songwriting skills. It also introduced me to talented creatives and mentors who helped shape my understanding of the industry.
Like many people starting out, I also met individuals who wanted to take advantage of my situation or talent, but I was fortunate to eventually find genuine people who believed in me and wanted to see me grow. Those relationships have been a major part of my journey so far.
At one point, I was constantly traveling between Arizona and Los Angeles because my wife had gotten a new job in Arizona while I was trying to establish myself in LA. There were times I slept on friends’ couches just to stay close to opportunities and continue chasing my dreams. Looking back, those experiences taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of having the right people around you.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a music producer, songwriter, and recording engineer primarily focused on Afrobeats and global contemporary music. My work blends African rhythms and melodies with modern production styles, and I’m very intentional about creating records that feel both authentic and globally accessible. I’m heavily involved in the creative process from start to finish; production, songwriting, vocal arrangement, and recording; so I naturally approach music in a very hands-on and collaborative way.
I’ve become known for my production style, attention to detail, and ability to help artists bring out their best performances in the studio. A lot of my work is rooted in emotion, groove, and musicality, which comes from growing up around live music in church and developing a deep love for instrumentation early on.
What I’m most proud of is being able to move to a completely new country, build relationships from the ground up, and create records that have gone on to reach millions of streams within a relatively short time. Beyond the numbers, I’m proud that people genuinely connect with the music and trust my creative vision.
I think what sets me apart is my background and perspective. Coming from Nigeria, studying engineering, and then transitioning fully into music gave me both a creative and analytical approach to my work. I’m also someone who genuinely values relationships and community, so I try to create environments where artists feel comfortable enough to be vulnerable and make great music.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
People can work with me in a number of ways through music production, songwriting, vocal production, recording, and creative collaboration. I’m always open to connecting with artists, producers, and creatives who are passionate about making meaningful music and pushing sounds forward, especially within Afrobeats and global contemporary music.
The best collaborations for me usually come from genuine relationships and shared creative vision. Whether it’s building songs from scratch, developing artists, or contributing production and songwriting to existing projects, I enjoy being part of the entire creative process.
One of the biggest ways people can support me is simply by supporting the music; streaming the records, sharing the work, attending events, and continuing to amplify independent creatives. I also appreciate opportunities to collaborate across different cultures and genres because I believe that’s how new sounds and ideas are created.
Right now, I’m focused on growing my catalog, expanding my creative network, and continuing to build impactful records and experiences with great people.
