Check Out Nathaniel Semsen’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathaniel Semsen.

Hi Nathaniel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Both my parents are professional musicians so from being a baby, I’ve grown up in an incredibly talented and musical family. I started in Band as a 6th grader and now ten years later, I’m still in Band as a college student. At the age of seven, I started recording vocals on my parents’ children’s musicals and continued that for probably ten years as well. This experience was so formative and has really helped me as an adult know how to act in a professional setting and what is expected of me. Recording three times a year while also being in Band is the direct reason for the Band/Choir/Arranger guy I am today!

My online presence started right before my senior year in a Youtube Band called “Lyon Bros.” I performed in this group for multiple years and we amassed 252K subscribers and approximately 40 million views on YouTube. This helped prepare me for the world of Tik Tok that I later broke into.

After a sudden viral video of a new series I created called “Singin Thru The MCU,” I gained 150K followers and a large demand for the continuation of the series. Because of this, I have been working diligently all year, collaborating with other creators on TikTok, getting brand sponsorships, and continuing to grow my platform as an artist and content creator!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
College classes virtually were terrible as a Music Major because everyone demanded so much from me without acknowledging that I needed time for myself as well even though I was alone all day with my work.

Another struggle for me has always been having a healthy work-life balance, I tend to overwork myself especially when we were in quarantine and it was all I could do to distract myself.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a composer/arranger and I currently specialize in writing original comedic songs. I do everything in the musical process myself at the moment: writing the song, orchestrating, producing, performing, mixing, advertising, and filming.

I am known for my original series “Singin Thru The MCU” on Tik Tok. It’s a series where I write a one-minute original song summarizing each movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is because of this series that I blew up on Tik Tok and gathered a following! I am most proud of creating and maintaining this series. I feel that my content is creative in a way unique to me while still having the professional industry skills to back up the crazy, wacky ideas I think of. I feel that every song of my series can hold a candle to what you hear on the radio.

What does success mean to you?
Success to me is being supported while doing something you love, whether that be family, friends, or an audience who loves your product.
