Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalia Rey.
Natalia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Three years ago, I made the bold decision to leave Cali, Colombia, and move to Los Angeles with no family, no friends, and just my passion for fashion. Even though I had a degree in advertising and broadcasting, my first step in LA was working as a babysitter. I eventually became an au pair for a beautiful family in Calabasas, but after a year, I knew I had to follow my true direction: fashion.
Everything I’ve built since then has been from the ground up. I’ve always believed that my style reflects who I am and how I feel, so I started telling stories through my clothes. I organized my own photoshoots, styling with whatever I had, and began reaching out to people on Instagram, sending tons of DMs just to collaborate. I watched runway shows non-stop, took classes, read books, and taught myself as much as I could.
Growing up in Colombia, I wasn’t surrounded by famous brands or luxury designers. It’s a different place, but even then, I developed a unique style. From the bright pinks of Hello Kitty to darker emo phases, I always found a way to express myself. That individuality helped me stand out, and soon enough, I got my first gig, my first magazine. That led to meeting my first client, who introduced me to others. Now, I’m part of the styling team for Tyga’s tour and also work with few athletes.
LA is a city where dreams really can come true if you work hard enough. My background—coming from a culture of warm, helpful people—has shaped the way I approach this industry. It’s not just about how well you can style or how much you know about fashion; it’s about creativity, constantly developing your skills, and building genuine relationships on top of that , I prayed a lot for what I have right now so god has me here and I couldn’t be more blessed. . In the end, I believe in what people say: wish for something so much that destiny gets tired of waiting and gives it to you.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey in the fashion industry has been full of struggles, with the biggest one being the language barrier. Coming from Colombia, adapting to the terminology, learning about fabrics , shapes, and photography in English has been a continuous challenge. On top of that, I’ve been doing this on my own—no mentor, no one guiding me—just me.
But in a way, that’s also what’s made this journey smoother. I’ve attracted the right people along the way, and I learn something new every day from those around me. Their support has made the road a little easier.
Still, the hardest part is being far from my family. I miss them every day, and that remains my biggest struggle. But despite everything, I love what I’m doing with my career. Sometimes, you have to pay a price to chase your dreams, and for me, it’s been worth it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a wardrobe stylist with a degree in advertising, I’m incredibly proud of my roots and the journey that’s brought me to where I am today. Conquering my dreams has been no small feat, and I’m proud of how far I’ve come. What sets me apart from others in this industry is that I know a little bit of everything—editing, photography, creative direction—these skills give me a well-rounded perspective.
But beyond that, it’s my persona that really defines me. While my work speaks for itself, who I am as a person is what shapes my identity and my looks. I’m all about bringing good vibes, whether I’m on set or collaborating with others. I’m the one who shows up with snacks for everyone, making sure we’re all enjoying the process while we create. For me, it’s about loving what we do and making the experience great for everyone involved.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
One thing people probably don’t know about me—and are often surprised to hear—is that I learned English entirely by myself. I get a lot of compliments about how good my English is for being a foreigner, and sometimes people even assume I’m from New York, which always makes me laugh. The truth is, I picked up English through music and movies. It’s funny how something that started as a way to enjoy my favorite songs and films turned into one of the most useful skills I have today!
