Check Out Mariana Gomez’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariana Gomez

Hi Mariana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I moved to this beautiful country when I was 18. Fresh out of high school and ready to pursue my dream in entertainment. I come from a very united family where we all protect each other and love deeply. My brother was diagnosed with autism when I turned 7 years old, which made me (or so I think) a very empathic person. I started loving telling stories and influencing people’s emotions and behaviors from my narratives, even if it was a smile, a big laugh or even a moment of peace and break from their chaotic lives. Now I live in big chaotic complicated LA trying to figure life out as I go, still with my dream in hand. which is to make people laugh, to connect with audiences and serve as a familiar face to have fun with, even through a screen.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As many many of us, I moved to the US to pursue the American dream. I worked extra hard to prove I could do better than anyone else in my field. Only my fellow international people would understand the pressure of time, the fear of rejection and the constant exhaustion of working to prove who you are. I was able to earn two SE EMMYs at the age of 23 for producing and writing, which later gave me the opportunity of my green card. I have also had a complicated journey with my mental health, weirdly, I have used art to heal my pain as a cathartic method and let me tell y’all it works wonders. 10/10, would recommend for anyone reading this.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Oh man, I think this is the hardest question for people who do art. I think once you discover the healing powers of art, the possibilities are endless. I have a BFA in Film & TV, a minor in Acting for the Camera and I have worn several hats over the years, sometimes even at the same time. Like in my most recent project “Cinco de Mayo is Not a Thing” which I wrote, showran and stared in, now available to stream on Avenida+ ! However, once you discover art, the mind never stops, for me, it took me to start my own business MART (@mar_makesart) after creating too many personalized art pieces for my friends that I decided to take the risk. You see what I mean? Once the mind starts being creative there is no turning back, art does wonders for the doer and for the observer doesn’t matter what kind of art.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
It’s so hard to say. AI is absolutely terrifying and weird. In the last show I produced, “Habla Que Te Escucho” I saw how AI slowly took over my peers, then the higher ups and really, I’m telling you, there’s no way to tell. I saw with my own eyes how I was getting replaced slowly. People told me “you’ll have more time to do other things, hobbies, what you love”, and I said “what if this is what I love?”. Scary. This is a scary scary time in my opinion.
