Check Out Maria Garibay’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Garibay.

Hi Maria, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It has been quite a journey as a first-gen Latina entrepreneur, from struggling with imposter syndrome to saying yes to new opportunities and being a voice for my comunidad Latina. I began to be a voice by sharing my entrepreneurship journey in my blog at mariagaribay.com Being the first in my family to become an entrepreneur, blogger and now becoming the co-founder of Insightful Babes Brand + Podcast with my amiga Diana Contreras.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Imposter syndrome is no joke for us first-gen as well as dealing with certain cultural norms or traditional beliefs. My entrepreneurship journey hasn’t always been a smooth road, mistakes will happen but you will learn from them. Imposter syndrome will show now and then but you should never quit. I believe rest is something really important for an entrepreneur, taking some time off is always necessary to refocus, something that helps me refocus/whenever I bump into a challenge/obstacle is to go out for a walk, pray, and keep in mind that it’s okay to rest just don’t quit. Dealing with challenges/obstacles are always easier to deal with when you surround yourself with the right people, it has been something I have learned throughout my entrepreneurship .journey.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Maria Garibay is a Bilingual First-Gen Entrepreneur + Blogger + Co-Founder of Insightful Babes Podcast & Brand + Digital Creator

Embracing my latinidad and sharing my entrepreneurship journey as first gen through blogging/social media while being a voice with all of the hustlers, dreamers, outsiders, and visionaries out there with my Insightful Babes community is what I am most proud of.

What I believe sets me apart from others is my self-determination, embracing being my unique self. I believe being yourself is super important when becoming a digital creator/anything in general. Never be afraid to be and love yourself.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people might not know that I used to not like speaking Spanglish (English and Spanish together). I shared about this story in one of our Insightful Babes Podcast episodes (chisme time episode)

Speaking Spanglish was a HUGE no no for me, I would either speak English or Spanish but I would never combine them because many people would criticize Spanglish, as time passed, I slowly came to understand that in order to fully embrace who I am I had to accept that Spanglish is a part of me and we should never feel ashamed of who we are or meant to be. “Soy de Aqui y de Alla” Now I am the first-gen Latina entrepreneur blogger/podcaster/digital creator happily living in a Spanglish world.
