Today we’d like to introduce you to Keita Suzuki.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been surrounded by music for as long as I can remember. My dad played guitar as a hobby, and watching him made me want to pick up an instrument of my own. I began taking piano lessons at the age of three, and as I grew older, I got into J-pop and rock music, which eventually sparked my interest in drums. I started playing when I was ten years old and instantly fell in love with the instrument. From that point on, I spent every spare moment practicing, refining my craft, and expanding my musical taste.
I later attended Berklee College of Music, where I not only continued developing as a drummer but also discovered my passion for music production. After graduation, I moved to Los Angeles, where I’ve been working professionally as both a producer and drummer.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’d say it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. When the pandemic hit, I felt like I ran into a tall, solid wall. Drums had always been everything to me, but suddenly it seemed like live shows might never return. At the time, I remember feeling completely hopeless. But looking back now, that period ended up opening a new path for me as a music producer, and it taught me an important lesson about adaptability and growth.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Among all the things I do, my primary roles are music producer and drummer. I believe it’s rare to find a producer with as deep an understanding of rhythm as I have—or a drummer with as much knowledge of music production. That blend is my biggest strength.
I’ve been very fortunate to collaborate with amazing artists and producers, including Aries, Stephanie Poetri, Malaya, Chasu, Piao, and Full City Rebake. I produced/recorded drums on Malaya’s “Wrist In Gauze – THAT” (March 7, 2025), Stephanie Poetri’s “I Love You 3000 (Bossa Nova Version)” (August 9, 2024), and several tracks—“PARTY PEOPLE,” “WICHITA BLUES,” “SIGN LANGUAGE,” and “ANESTHESIA”—for Aries’ album GLASS JAW (November 14, 2025). The album reached #8 on Spotify’s UK Top Debut Album Chart, which I’m very proud of, especially because I worked on it with some of my favorite people.
I also had the pleasure of performing drums for Stephanie Poetri and running playback for Piao in front of thousands at the major festival Head In The Clouds Los Angeles 2025 (May 31 & June 1, 2025). Later, I joined Stephanie for a China tour, performing her headline show at JZ Club Shanghai as well as the Rednote No-Border Music Festival at Shanghai VAS est (September 6 & 7, 2025).
