Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Nakie Coquette is on a mission to make sustainability sexy. We launched in August of 2021 with a collection of sustainable and collectible retro luxe beauty essentials. Our goal is to make a difference, support women and give back to organizations that matter with every purchase.
We have a unique and cheeky approach, with slow batched beauty in collectible and refillable packaging that is so beautiful you wouldn’t dare throw it away. We have partnered with some amazing charitable organizations and we’re proudly Leaping Bunny Certified cruelty-free.
Last year we announced our first big retail partner and debuted on Verishop, the online destination for something different- which is really exciting.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As a brand that’s all about being sexy, cheeky and empowering women we’re are constantly encountering obstacles! From being committed to sustainability and sourcing the most eco-friendly materials while dealing with inflation and supply chain issues to being blocked from advertising on Instagram, dealing with the lack of regulation in the CBD industry- every day is a new challenge if we’re honest. From inception, we committed to giving back to meaningful causes with each purchase, that is also a hurdle for a self-funded indie brand!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We are so proud to be known for making sustainability sexy. Niki is a highly sought-after celebrity stylist, designer and creative director and Jessica is a PR expert dedicated to using our resources to create elevated everyday essentials that add inherent value to your journey while supporting causes that matter.
We’re both so inspired by vintage, retro, luxe products because it harkens to an era when products were meant to be treasured forever and not discarded after a single use. We decided that our first collection launch would be in the beauty space because we both know how important quality, clean and effective skincare is, especially as you age. There is also a massive waste problem in the beauty industry, which is why we took painstaking care to be as thoughtful and environmentally conscious as possible. We literally hand-dipped our glass bottles in biodegradable custom-blended wax and sealed with sustainably sourced Portuguese cork to avoid plastic. All of our beauty products feature sustainable refill systems with the most earth-friendly materials possible like aluminum, compostable pouches and labels and refillable luxe vessels. We use the highest quality ethically sourced pure plant ingredients, including CBD to quench and soothe stressed-out skin.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Nakie Coquette is a double entendre for our brand, Nakie (naked) referring to our pure ingredients and Coquette (flirt) referring to our cheeky approach.
