Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Tardo.
Hi Jeremy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My love for “putting people together” began when I was a child. I would style the hair and clothes of my 4 siblings and create photo shoots with them as my models. They were generally accommodating and great sports about it This was pre digital camera and the photos would have to be developed at our local Walgreens haha.
I began my career as a colorist at Aveda Institute and H2O salon in New Orleans where I’m originally from. I relocated to southern California in 2005 and have worked with a local clientele in LA for ages. I became bicoastal in 2018. I currently take care of a clientele in NYC and a clientele in LA every month. People often ask me whether the travel gets old. Sometimes I’m not thrilled to get on another flight, but I genuinely love being in both cities. So it’s worth it to me.
I work with Benjamin Salon in LA and NY, and the people are lovely there. The company is LA based, but just opened a beautiful new space in NY as well. Cool vibes, unassuming, high end without being stuffy.
As a colorist, I specifically focus on hair color. I don’t personally do any cutting, so I team up with great hairstylists. My dear friend and business partner, Amanda Shuttleworth and I have worked together since I began my West Coast chapter. I collaborate closely with her as well as other brilliant hairdressers like Mira Hyde, Pamela Neal and Joan Brochard at Benjamin Salon.
I began working in the fashion and celebrity space in LA and have had the chance to travel quite a bit taking care of hair color projects for actors, musicians and brands. I am represented by The Wall Group globally.
I’m currently super excited about a clean, luxury hair care line for color treated hair that I am developing. It is called ENSO and iit will be launching in 2025.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course, not every step of my path has been effortless and easy. I spent many years working as the first person in the salon and the last person out at least 5 days a week. Often times I’d take on extra projects on nights and weekends, so that I could build the freelance part of my business while still caring for my day to day clients which were my “bread and butter”. I almost never said no to any jobs because I honestly loved them and was motivated to always be building something. I would get a bit fried at times though, and the 2020 pandemic forced me to stop working. It was kind of a gift to me in the sense that, I had a lot of free time to evaluate what I had been doing and how I may want to do things differently. I have since, cut my salon days to 3 per week which frees up more time for the special project work. Not to mention, time to enjoy my life outside of work. I have a wonderful partner of 13 years, great friends and family and a dog who I treat like my biological child. Cliche to say that life is short, but I am definitely leaning in to a new chapter of work, life balance for maybe the first time in my life.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
This is a bio that was done recently for my PR. I think you can grab what you need for this question from here. Lmk if anything else is helpful:

Based in L.A. and New York, Jeremy and his team call their approach to hair color, “Art meets Science” as Tardo says that he finds significant gratification in the nerdy science of custom color formulation. Jeremy and his team are beloved by their many clients and are trusted to deliver exceptional results every time.
When called an “Artist”, Jeremy replies “Yes, I am an artist, on the most important canvas in the world, a human being”
What makes you happy?
Taking care of others has been a huge part of my life and work for as long as I can remember. I find happiness in taking the focus off of myself and finding ways to be intentional about how I care for others. It can be as small as opening a door for someone or maybe ignoring an incoming call when engaging with someone else.
That said, my happy moments are self centered too. I’m not above some introverted days in a bathrobe at home buried in a book or some mindless trash tv.
Staying active, fhealthy also keep the endorphins going for me. I love a good, consistent fitness routine to offset my foodie tendencies.
Give me a great new restaurant any day and you’ll be compensated with smiles.
Learning keeps me stimulated and happy as well. Teach me something new and I’m instantly more intrigued and interested in you. Haha
