Check Out JB Brown’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to JB Brown.

Hi JB, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I received my start in New York after winning a series of open mic competitions and later the producers asked me to be the host. For years I did stand-up comedy, sketch comedy, acting, writing, producing and what some say is my greatest talent hosting. I was lucky enough to meet Tracy Morgan and build a mentor/mentee relationship with him. I remember asking if I could go on tour with him and host our open-up the shows. He quickly declined, lol. Not because I wasn’t good enough but because he already had a host and opener. But Tracy later challenged me to do every show paid or not and make sure everyone knew my name. So I went out performing everywhere and learning the entertainment industry in school and out in the comedy clubs.

With some knowledge and a small fanbase, I created a show called Laugh Out Loud Thursdays while attending college as a drama major. This platform allowed me to blossom as a writer and talent coach because of the coaching up of new comedians, actors and hosts. The show became a success for the community and even gained some national attention. Even with that success, I knew way back then that something was missing in the industry. At a Typical fashion or let’s say comedy show the Headliner gets paid the most. Then would be the bar or kitchen or the promoter. Let’s not forget about the DJ the midliner, parking staff, security, bottles girls, etc… however, it’s the Host that has the most responsibility at communicating with the audience throughout the event and making sure the show flows and gets paid the least. I wanted to change that but didn’t know how just yet. Even with the show thriving, making lots of money, becoming popular and me finishing school I felt I had to leave for LA. It was humbling to move to the west coast and start over but I wanted to learn how things worked in Hollywood. My Time in New York really had me seasoned and confident.

With an arrangement from BET, I was introduced to Keke Palmer in which I became her Talent coach. Word quickly spread in LA that I was a stern yet passionate Master Talent Coach that pushed actors to be their greatest version of themselves. The overwhelming number of students provided some financial freedom and allowed me to get back to what I thought the industry was missing. After years of creating, coaching, hosting I became a bit frustrated because of what was seen in the industry and in also my personal life. So I decided to go on a fast and I called it the intentional living fast. This fast allowed me to eliminate some things but moreover hear from God. After 60 days of the intentional living fast I remember life-changing things happening for me every day for five days in a row. One was to create an app for host and to call it the Shout Me Out App. After all these years God simply gave me the idea and the details on how exactly to go about it. I was and still am excited about it all. He told me that all my help is already in my phone from the years of networking and data. After 9 years of creating the app, we finally got it right.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t always been a smooth road. But I’m glad things happens the way they did. Makes it that much more gratifying. The pandemic forced me to move and slowed down my progression. Some of the main struggles were losing friends and family along the way. I miss them and wish they had the opportunity to see what I created.
