Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Cordero
Hi Jason, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Jason Cordero. Born and raised in the South Bay. After being bullied as a kid, I started training martial arts in the 6th grade and fell in love with it. I was fortunate to train with many great instructors, competitors, and fighters. After practicing Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, and competing in MMA fights, I began coaching at several different academies in the south bay. For decades I dreamed of starting an academy of my own. That day finally came true when I met my business partner who was inspired by watching his children train Jiu Jitsu with me. We officially opened Cordero Jiu Jitsu Academy at the end of August 2024.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
After getting the Academy ready to open we were lucky enough to have students who have previously trained with me join CJJA as our founding students. Though mostly smooth our obstacle so far is putting the word out to the community letting them know we are open and ready to assist anyone who has the desire to train Jiu Jitsu.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
In addition to years of competing in Martial Arts and training hundreds of students, I have been fortunate enough to work with another job that is also a passion. Food has always been a love of mine shared within my family. The way I was raised, we show our love and appreciation with food. I totally enjoy cooking for family or big parties. Together with my mother we have run a successful catering company serving the southbay with delicious food for decades.
How do you define success?
Success is doing what you love and love what you do. Nothing inspires me more than seeing my students apply what they have learned and really be able to progress each and every time they train.
