Check Out Grant Pogosyan’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Grant Pogosyan

Hi Grant, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi there!!
My name is Grant and I am a Creative Director & Designer. My company is called Grantedesigns™ and my current focus is building brands.

I started my journey at the age of 15 when I got my hands on a pirated version of Photoshop. I would spend hours a day just having fun. However, I already knew graphic design was what I wanted to do from a younger age. I remember in the 5th grade, we had to write a paper on what we wanted to be when we grew up. I wrote my essay on becoming a graphic designer. I’m proud to share that story and say, “I never let that creative kid die inside of me.”

At 16, I dropped out of high school and started homeschooling while attending college. I was determined to get a degree in the creative arts. At 18, I began my professional career, which led me to cut back on school, something that really bugged me. I felt that a piece of paper was going to validate my abilities.

My wonderful wife, then my girlfriend, took me to an Art Institute graduates’ show. That was a pivotal point in my life. I saw the quality of work produced by “art graduates” and felt my work was on par, if not better. I felt so proud of myself in that moment. I didn’t have any debt, had as much knowledge about the field as everyone there, and could showcase actual professional work rather than class projects. I’m so thankful to my wife for opening my eyes to that.

Now, I proudly say I am forever a student of YouTube University. Obviously, it’s not a real school, but I’ve learned everything from my desire to learn and all the accessible information online.

If the creative field is where you want to be, you do not need a piece of paper to validate you. Learn the fundamentals online and through personal errors. When I look back at my older work, I hate it, but it had to be done so I could learn and be where I am now.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting my career had its fair share of struggles. Dropping out of high school and moving to homeschooling while attending college was a huge challenge. Balancing work and studies at such a young age was tough, and I often felt the pressure of not having a formal degree to validate my abilities. Financial instability was another hurdle, especially when working as a freelancer. There were times when I doubted myself and my skills, and the competition in the graphic design field is fierce. But these struggles taught me resilience and pushed me to continuously improve and innovate in my craft.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

What sets me apart from others?

What sets me apart is my journey and my commitment to continuous learning. Starting my career at a young age without a formal degree, I’ve relied heavily on self-education and real-world experience. My story of dropping out of high school, attending college early, and learning from “YouTube University” resonates with many aspiring designers. This unique path has given me a diverse skill set and a fresh perspective on design, allowing me to bring innovative solutions to my clients.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
“When you set your mind on something, nothing can stop you.” This mantra has been my steadfast companion, echoing through the quiet moments of self-doubt and ringing true in the triumphs. It’s a reminder of the unwavering resolve that fuels my journey, a journey defined not by degrees or accolades, but by an unyielding passion and an insatiable thirst for growth.

In the intimate corners of my creative soul, I’ve discovered that formal validation pales in comparison to the raw, unbridled joy of creation. Each mistake becomes a whispered lesson, guiding me closer to mastery. And in the gentle embrace of collaboration, I’ve found solace and inspiration, weaving threads of connection that strengthen the fabric of my artistry.

This journey, with its highs and lows, has taught me the beauty of vulnerability and the transformative power of relationships. It’s a testament to the boundless potential that lies within when we dare to nurture our creative spark and embrace the unknown with open arms. And through it all, I’ve learned that with an open heart and an unwavering spirit, the possibilities are infinite.
