Today we’d like to introduce you to Graham Harris.
Hi Graham, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Decker Kitchen started in 2017 in Westlake Village. It started as a test because there weren’t many small restaurants in the area that focused on seasonal foods cooked from local sources, as we are surrounded by amazing farms that produce incredible product all year. We launched at the end of 2017 and had a line out the door when we began, and have had a great following and relationship with the local community ever since. Fast forward to 2024 and we have shifted our location to the Lake Lindero Golf Club (open to the public) in Agoura Hills. The goal here at the Club is the same as its always been – cook delicious food thats seasonal and based on local ingredients, and do this in a casual setting with reasonable prices. Not only do we have our restaurant, but we are also hosting events from weddings and special celebrations, to corporate events and birthday parties. We are a family friendly spot with beautiful outdoor grounds, as well as sports entertainment like Golf, Tennis and Swimming.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Although my background is not in restaurants, I dont know if any restaurant has a smooth road at all times. We have not only learned a ton about operating a small restaurant along the way to help ourselves, but we have also lived through Covid and massive Wildfires. The key for us was having a good relationship with our community, and truly listening to what they wanted.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Decker Kitchen is a product focused restaurant. What that means to us, is we are all about the product we create, being that food or cocktails. We want to create delicious products for our guests, and we want to deliver that to them without a lot of pretense. We want people to feel comfortable and be delightfully surprised that they are getting such a great meal, in a casual environment, and at prices that are on par with fast casual restaurants. What sets Decker Kitchen apart from others is that we are constantly focused on improving and changing, so you can always expect something new and exciting from us.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Get out to local restaurants and businesses and give them a try. Say hi, introduce yourself and share where you are and what you are doing. Not only will that help you build your community, but that can be a lot of fun and help you get to know more local businesses
