Today we’d like to introduce you to Devon Lawrence
Hi Devon, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up surrounded by the beautiful redwood trees in Northern California. As a child, I was always singing, writing songs and playing in nature — I had a vivid imagination. As I got older, I began performing as a professionally trained singer/songwriter and earned a full scholarship to USC’s prestigious Popular Music program to pursue my dreams of being an artist.
Around that time, I had a major spiritual awakening. A friend introduced me to meditation, and I was instantly hooked – it sparked a deep dive into studying meditation, energy work, alternative healing modalities, and all things metaphysical. It felt like I had stumbled upon true magic.
This awakening completely transformed my life. It was like a switch had been turned on in me after being asleep for a long, long time. Life felt more magical, aligned and meaningful.
In the years that followed, I took a step back from music and became certified as a meditation teacher, intuitive reader, and reiki practitioner. In 2020, I created my business to share these gifts with others – offering my intuitive guidance through readings and helping my clients connect with their own intuition.
Currently, I offer 1:1 intuitive readings, lead meditation classes, and am exploring ways to integrate my passion for spirituality/healing with my love for music. I’m excited about using my voice as a healing instrument – whether that’s in sound baths, recordings, live events, or something else. Musical frequencies powerfully influence our bodies. I’m exploring singing melodies and tones to facilitate healing for others on a physical and emotional level. To me, it feels like a perfect blend of music and healing, art and science, and a true full-circle moment for me.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The biggest obstacle I’ve faced was in December 2020, when I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, an autoimmune disease, at age 25. It happened out of the blue and completely blindsided me. It turned everything I thought I knew about my body and health upside down, especially because Type 1 Diabetes isn’t technically “caused” by anything – not even health, diet or lifestyle. The past few years have been more challenging than I ever could have expected, as I’ve had to relearn my body and adapt my lifestyle in a way that works best for me now.
One of the lessons has been learning to listen to my body more closely – especially when it needs rest. It’s been a huge challenge, especially as someone who wants to be able to do it all, and not be forced to slow down. I’ve had to learn to say no to certain things and be more attuned to my body’s signals.
I was already well into my spiritual journey when I received this diagnosis, but this experience forced me to dive even deeper. It was the most profoundly challenging time of my life, but it was also a turning point in my personal and professional path. It gave me the confidence to trust my intuitive abilities on a deepr level, and fueled my passion for helping others do the same.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Throughout my life, my greatest passions have always been music and healing. As an intuitive coach, meditation guide, and musician, I’m deeply driven by the desire to help people connect with their inner voice and spirituality, while also creating music that resonates with others emotionally. While these two passions may seem distinct, they’re very deeply connected.
As a meditation teacher, I’m passionate about holding healing space for others. I recently started teaching a weekly meditation class at Unplug Meditation in Santa Monica, which is where I originally earned my meditation teacher certification. My class is designed to empower people to bring their deepest desires to life through the power of manifestation and community. It takes place every Saturday at 9:30am and is open to everyone! My goal with this work is to inspire people to tap into their inner wisdom and live more aligned, authentic lives through their intuition.
In addition to teaching, I offer intuitive readings that help individuals gain clarity and navigate the world from a spiritual perspective. I started by giving readings to friends and family, and through word of mouth, my business soon starting to expand. It’s so fulfilling to witness the impact these readings have – whether it’s confirming a message a client needed to hear, or illuminating an exciting idea they haven’t expressed yet. Those moments are incredibly rewarding.
Beyond my spiritual work, music will always be a core part of who I am. Singing and songwriting are essential to my identity and happiness, and I’m excited to be writing and recording again after a few years’ hiatus. There’s nothing like the feeling of expressing myself through music, knowing it has the power to resonate with others an emotional level.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of my incredible family and friends. I’m so grateful for the amazing people in my life who see me, encourage me, and inspire me to be the best version of myself.
Along my journey, I’ve been lucky to learn from some amazing teachers and mentors. Desiree Lanz, a gifted intuitive coach, taught me the art of intuition and inspired me to start my business. I’m also deeply appreciative of Suze Yalof Schwartz, the founder of Unplug Meditation. She not only led my meditation teaching training, but also gave me the opportunity teach regularly at the studio, which has been an exciting full circle moment for me.
I also want to give a massive thank you to my clients, who inspire me and honestly blow me away with their vulnerability, insights and depth. Witnessing their growth and transformation strengthens my passion for this work and reminds me of the profound ability we each have to make a difference in other people’s lives.
