Today we’d like to introduce you to Carissa Stanton
Hi Carissa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started by blog & Instagram, Brocc Your Body, back in 2017 after cooking for many girl’s nights and always sending my friends the recipes I put together. I’ve always had a passion for food and cooking since I was younger and once I was in college I started experimenting with making my favorite recipes a little healthier.
It was a long road to get where I am today and I never had a big moment or recipe that lead to my success- it was a slow and steady path. Over the years of posting food, I gradually started sharing more about my lifestyle. I would talk about everything from my mental health struggles, breakups, fashion, and everything in between. Throughout the years I have built an incredible community who I call the “Broccolinis.” I like to think of my page as a safe space to talk about whatever struggles we are facing and of course, cook up some great food.
Once my blog gained some traction and followers, I knew I was going to write a cookbook one day. It has felt like such a natural path and it is my greatest accomplishment to date.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not! When it came to writing my cookbook, I was so excited about the project and all my ideas. I heard “no” so many times from so many different people and it was such a struggle keeping my genuine excitement for the project alive. I remember thinking “you’ll look back on this and be so happy you didn’t give up!”. Luckily, I was right!
I also had to make some major, uncomfortable choices in my life in order to get myself in the right position to really further my career. There were certain things holding me back, and although it would have been easy to stay comfortable, I made those hard choices and they paid off.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I make simple, easy recipes for a balanced life. All of my recipes use simple ingredients you can find at any grocery store and they don’t require any chef level skills to make. My recipes are usually healthy, but I’m definitely no stranger to some cheese, butter and a splash of heavy cream. There’s also some recipes that are decadent and delicious, because you can eat grilled chicken and salad your whole life but if you aren’t taking the time to eat some downright indulgent food from time to time I don’t believe that’s a healthy lifestyle.
I think my philosophy towards a healthy lifestyle is really what sets me apart from others.
I am most proud of my community that I have built. It’s such an incredible group of people who are supportive, funny and love good food. The best kind of people!
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I think a lot of people assume that I spend all day cooking a bunch of recipes, but in reality I really just post what I cook for dinner each night. This usually consists of a 30 minute meal with minimal dishes and ingredients I have on hand already. I try to keep the process as natural as possible because I want people to feel like they can easily make my recipes at the end of a busy day.
