Check Out Brittni Wedel’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittni Wedel

Hi Brittni, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am originally from Bakersfield, CA. I went to college at Chapman University. I graduated with a BA in Art History and advertising minor. After college I moved to NYC where I lived 5 years. I worked in digital advertising for 8 years. I moved to LA in 2017 where I continued to do digital advertising. I wanted to move to LA to be closer to family. I loved LA for the incredible food and art scene. I love cities and thrive in a fast past environment. I lived in West LA (Mar Vista) I did digital advertising here for 3 years. In 2019 I made the decision to switch careers and get into real estate. I was a realtor in LA for about 8 months when I made the hard decision to move to my home town to be with my now husband. We have 3 kids. I struggled moving back to Bakersfield at first. It was away from the city so I made sure I made many trips back. Quickly after moving it was 2020 and the pandemic hit. Once the pandemic got better I set out on a mission to make Bakersfield home and a place I could love. With many people moving to Bakersfield from surrounding cities looking for affordable housing I have seen a cultural shift here and it has been great to have more city minded people here in Bakersfield. While being a full time realtor I saw that Bakersfield had great qualities that people were looking past. I started an instagram series called Check this Out Bakersfield that quickly gained attention and many friends, family and strangers were reaching out for recommendations where to eat, drink or do activities here in town. Wanting to make a change in Bakersfield I joined a group called the Innovation Lab ran by the Hub of Bakersfield dedicated to creating a space to teach interested community members how to grow and foster creativity and business and small projects in urban spaces. Through this we were encouraged to do a 90 day goal and I decided to host Dine and Discover Restaurant Week in Bakersfield. We went on the news had 18 restaurants participate the first year and 24 the second. We started downtown and expanded to South West the second year. It brought great results to the participating restaurants. I would have never thought to do this if I had not had the experience of Dine LA. It has been incredible to take my experience that I have learned in cities like NYC and LA and put them to practice in Bakersfield. Bakersfield is a place where you can contact leaders in the community and have real conversations and learn to grow. I focus my real estate business buyers looking to relocate from other cities since I have first hand experience what it is like coming to Bakersfield after living in a city. I want to share with people how wonderful it is to be in a central location and such a short 2 hr drive to LA, Pismo, Paso Robles and Mountain ranges / national parks. I have a 4 year old daughter and a 8 month old. I have gotten to travel the world to 31 countries. Bringing people together has always been something I love.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. Anytime you move to a new city it is an adjustment. Whether it was in NYC or LA it took time to feel like I belonged and had true friends. I thrive on connection and that part can be so difficult. Quickly in LA work friends became family and that made life so much better. Moving to Bakersfield was hard because as I got in a flow with some new friends the Pandemic hit. Then we really weren’t able to engage with anyone and I was just married, pregnant and feeling very lonely. When things got better I joined groups like the mom walk, babes and brews as well as innovation lab to spark join into my life. The mom walk brought me so much join and connection to other mom so I didn’t feel so alone in the hardships of motherhood. Finding you tribe when you move is just crucial. Picking up a hobby or being around like minded people is a perfect way to do that. Also, being new again to my hometown with a new baby I had to hustle for work. So many agents have never left Bakersfield and have incredible connections. I had to build that back up again. Leaving city life was a huge adjustment for me because I love a fast pace lifestyle. I had to work hard to find events going on to feel fulfilled. I was pleasantly surprised by how much actually does go on in Bakersfield and if I truly feel restless I can drive to LA to visit friends or a day trip

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
