Check Out Ak & Ej Odjighoro’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ak & Ej Odjighoro.

Hi Ak & Ej, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We were born in Nigeria and moved to America with our family on a visa lottery when we were kids. We started singing in our family’s church from a young age and music has always been a big part of our lives. After making little songs in our bedroom and performing covers of other artists’ songs on TikTok and YouTube, in 2020 we made the decision to put our full effort into creating original music and pursuing careers as artists. And so KAIRO was born, and we have never looked back… it’s been an incredible journey ever since.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As young men of color pursuing a career in pop music, which has historically been dominated by non-POC artists, we have to be constantly looking for new ways to forge our own path.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We are artists, musicians, and songwriters. We are most proud of our live shows – seeing our fans face to face, singing our lyrics back to us, is a feeling we will never get over. Seeing our work come to fruition in person is priceless. We set ourselves apart by creating music that all kinds of people can relate to, and by working to be an inspiration for young people of color everywhere, especially in spaces that don’t have many faces that look like ours.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
We are known for our harmonies in our music – we actually learned to harmonize when we were kids in our church worship band! And now those harmonies are the center of all our records.
