Today we’d like to introduce you to Aishwarya Sonar.
Hi Aishwarya, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Pune, India and was immersed in films since I was a kid because of my dad’s love for movies – I have lost count of how many times I have watched Rocky. While pursuing an undergrad in Business Administration from Pune, a timid 19-year-old me decided to move to Mumbai. I began my journey there and assisted Rajesh Mapuskar on the national award-winning film “Ventilator.” This led to my acting debut in the Marathi film “Kay Re Rascalaa,” produced by Priyanka Chopra Jonas’s Purple Pebble Pictures, and later a role in the Filmfare-nominated short film “Nitishastra” alongside Taapsee Pannu. This gave me the necessary boost to take the plunge and move to the States, where I studied film at UCLA. Miles to go before I sleep is my constant.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Honestly, this doesn’t feel like a struggle, even the rejections, the heartbreaks – all of it is so exciting, well at least in hindsight. The journey is the best part, no? I think the most difficult step was moving, first from Pune to Mumbai and then from there to LA, but I am doing what I love to do, exploring a new place and working with people from all over the world; I feel so lucky. Of course, there are moments of doubt, and I miss my family terribly, but it’s all worth it when I see the call sheet, get to collaborate with immense talent, and create great stories.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a professional actor passionate about storytelling. My journey began with the Marathi film “Kay Re Rascalaa,” produced by Purple Pebble Pictures, marking my acting debut. This led to a pivotal role in the Filmfare-nominated short film “Nitishastra” alongside acclaimed actress Taapsee Pannu. Since relocating to Los Angeles, I’ve featured in national brand commercials, honing my craft and expanding my reach. One of my proudest achievements is portraying the lead role of Premi in the acclaimed short film “Mysore Magic,” showcased at prestigious festivals like Palm Springs ShortFest, HollyShorts, and Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, among others. “Three’s Definitely A Crowd” premiered at the Oscar-qualifying Pan African Film Festival and was subsequently distributed and stayed in the top 10 on Disney+/Hotstar. Additionally, “Dictionary” earned recognition at the esteemed LA Shorts festival. Having embraced over 15 lead roles in films, I continue to explore diverse characters and narratives, contributing to compelling storytelling. As my journey unfolds, I remain devoted to expanding my repertoire and making a meaningful impact in the entertainment industry.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
All the filmmakers and people who I have met, worked with and have been inspired by.
