Check Out 2070’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to 2070’s

Hi 2070’s, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We started as a band in Kalamazoo Michigan in 2015. My friend Karl lent me a DVD box set of the show Cowboy Bebop which quickly became my favorite show especially because of the the time the show takes place in which is in 2071. For the next few days after, I kept thinking about future decades and how there would eventually be a repeat of the ’70s so I asked my friends who I was playing music with at the time if our band should be called 2070. They liked the name.

I started 2070 with my two friends Jarrell Fields and Evan Asher. We would play shows around our neighborhood in town and in other cities mostly around western Michigan and the Great Lakes region for a few years before I moved away to Ohio to help my family and prepare to move to Los Angeles. After 5 months in Columbus, Jarrell joined me from Detroit to move out to Los Angeles where a few of my friends had secured a house and invited us to live with them.

This was 2019, the new lineup for 2070 became Me (Trevor) on Guitar and Vocals, Jarrell on bass, and brothers Khari and Tchad Cousins on second guitar and drums. We were living in South Central, played some shows around Southern California during the year and released one self titled EP in August 2019. We continued playing with this lineup until the beginning of the pandemic in spring that following year and Jarrell moved back to Detroit to focus on his graphic design business.

During the pandemic we mostly wrote and recorded music for the time, released our second EP Head Bust (The last to feature Jarrell on bass) in 2021 and recruited drummer Rogers DeCoud from No Paws to join the band allowing Tchad to the over bass duties. We practiced multiple times a week for a year before playing our first show together with this new lineup in 2022. This allowed us to really lock in the specific live sound we wanted and play the songs with a certain type of energy and tightness. Practically eliminating any unsureness about our live sets and quickly gaining appreciation from audiences. We released our debut album Shordy on Already Dead Tapes and continued to play shows in and around Los Angeles. In early 2023 Tchad left the band to focus on his own music endeavors and we recruited Danny Rincon of LA band Scrunchie to play bass. This has been the current lineup since April 2023. We have toured the west coast, opened for bands such as Bar Italia and Slow Hollows and released our second album Stay In the Ranch earlier this year with a demos album called Rabies Shot $5 shortly after. We recently signed to Danger Collective Records and are in the process of recording our third album.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We have all enjoyed playing music with each other and there hasn’t been very much friction in the band since its inception but I guess my internal struggles with leaving of Michigan and moving out west was hard for me. I enjoyed the dynamic between Jarrell, Evan and I and was sad to see that end in a way. Starting new in an unfamiliar city was a challenge along with starting the band again after the pandemic and us getting to playing at a certain level of quality as a band was not easy to get to. A lot of practice and problem solving.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
You can learn more about us by coming to our shows and listening to our latest music online. We are primarily on Instagram and post updates about the band on there. We direct and edit our own music videos and are generally known for playing often and at extremely high volume.
