Check out Danni Shinya Luo’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danni Shinya Luo.

Danni Shinya, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
When I was living in China as a little kid, I was always doodling in my textbooks and imitating drawings from favorite Manga pages. After coming to the US in 1995, my family discovered this art interest and sent me to weekend art classes. Eventually got a four-year apprenticeship with a well known Chinese-American watercolor master, Ding Ha. I went on to study in Art Center Colleges of Design earning a partial scholarship and graduated as an Honor Roll among the classes.

I have participated in numerous exhibitions in the US and overseas. La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles is my main representing gallery. Besides being involved in the pop surrealism field, I have been active in other creative fields as well. I have done works for many different places including: Marvel Comics, Zenescope Comics, Hasbro Inc., MGA Entertainment, Nickelodeon Virtual Worlds and more.

I am fortunate to be able to publish three art books so far. The first book “Break The Ice” was a self-published, limited 300 edition, softcover, which was sold out soon after release. The second book “Soft Candy” was an open edition hardcover, published through Last Gasp Publishing in San Francisco. It has gained popularity and is available in bookstores, Amazon, and through email orders. The third book “Un Petit Catalogue” was self-published in 2013, with a limited 500 edition. It’s a larger format soft cover with a collection of newer paintings and drawings.

The newest move is to the online world, staying connected with people who enjoy my art through my very own Patreon.com page.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I’m creating eye-candy in the forms of drawing, painting, and fan-art. The main medium for drawing is red pencil, Copic markers, and black ink; for painting, it’s watercolor and acrylics.

I love to create beautiful faces, the focus of my work is the female figure.

The old concept of “Vanitas” inspires me. I create symbols and allegories with figure, florals, and fauna. The purpose is to present viewers with the pure beauty of things, as well as a reminder to all that beauty is short-lived, cherish it while it last. In some of my works, I also want to make people feel love, or to fall in love, when you gaze into the images. To have that feeling of simple first love is the most wonderful thing.

The stereotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
It is very difficult to balance financial freedom vs. creative freedom, I still struggle with that balance now. I’m not against having a paid part-time job just to pay the bills while you establish yourself in the field. And remember to put yourself out there, no one will spread the word for you except yourself; at the same time be smart about what projects you take on, try to see which ones bring you more expanding potentials. Don’t be afraid of rejections and be yourself!

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My new home is at: www.Patreon.com/DanniShinyaLuo.
Anyone who enjoys eye-candy, the art of beautiful girls, can connect with me and give support on my Patreon page, this is what keeps me going. I update new works, event news, and process videos monthly, the videos are super fun to watch, I always pick a good piece of music to go with it. The best part is you can customize how much support you’re comfortable to give and change it anytime.

I’m also on Instagram and FB, I post some life photos there.
