Andrea Valenzuela of Los Angeles County on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Andrea Valenzuela shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Andrea, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
When people think of entertainment production one would assume it is the usual: “lights, camera, action.” Little do they realize it is more like: “pre, pro, post”…along with…How will this alter reality? How can it shape and change culture? Is this really worth it? Who will see this? Will they like it? Let’s not forget the constant doubt that happens in-between. At the end of it all, all that matters is simply finishing and tackling the next big thing.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi there, my name is Andrea and I am a California-based coordinator for live events. At the moment I work for an incredible entertainment company called: Matrix Visual Solutions. Currently we have 3 main production hubs/houses in Nashville Tennessee, Las Vegas Nevada, and Fullerton California (HQ).

With an intense background in broadcasting and live production, I in fact joined the team back in 2019 and have been riding the wave since. In this time, I have seen the company grow internally and expand into other states. When I began, we only had our HQ on the West Coast. Now we service the East-Coast and cover most of the Las Vegas area and Mid-West.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Apart from having a strong support system, and of course believing in oneself, having a mentor is so important while in this industry. I have always understood my strengths (and weaknesses) but harnessing myself and propelling forward was something I needed to truly comprehend. My mentor: Professor Steven Levinson (now retired) from the film program at California State University, Monterey Bay had always been just that. Not only did he take the time to talk and ease my mind about my future endeavors, he in fact also connected me to my first major job in the industry which was at FOX 35 Monterey-Salinas-Santa Cruz.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Oh my, of course. I have now been working and thriving in entertainment for 10 years now! That’s quite a feat if you ask me but in this time, there were many hiccups that devastated me.

To be frank they were more personal which bled into my work. In order to regain my strength, I actually became closer to God which has allowed me hope, stay and grow.

Now I tackle high-level events, theatre productions and even electoral campaigns!

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I have this major feeling/belief that theatre is going to make a huge come-back. With the success of theatre productions to film adaptations, folks are now understanding the real magic has always been on stage. It was the first medium for entertainment after all. Here’s to all the theatre kids!

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I am consuming/taking in someone’s art. Whether that be on stage, film, witnessing their designs or writing. Seeing someone in their passion(s) is such an honor that I will never take for granted.
