We recently had the chance to connect with Willy Calderon and have shared our conversation below.
Willy, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. Who are you learning from right now?
I am learning so much from fans and the people that support my music and talent. I have accepted that the people closest to you won’t always be the most appreciative and those you call strangers will unconditionally appreciate you if you inspire them.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Willy Calderon, a self made artist, brand, career musician, record producer, and music industry professional with over 20 years of experience, wisdom, and stories.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, we’re taught to fit in, go with the trends, and make as many people like you as you can. I understand that this is not a sustainable path and that fitting in is not how you’ll stand out. I like to create my own path, luck, and opportunities understanding that some feathers will be ruffled.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Plenty of times. Deaths, betrayals, injustices have all been times in my life where I question my purpose or path, but I understood at a young age that life turns out how you react to it. Sometimes you have to be primed for success with life’s lessons.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I think they would say quality. Quality is a big part of everything I produce and I believe you should make something of quality in whatever your endeavors are whether it be your work, your relationships, or your personal output.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
Not many people know my life, but I hope to leave a physical legacy behind documenting the moments that made my life unique. I’d like to leave a series of small poems documenting people, places, and things. Hopefully people will just listen to my legacy catalog of music and intellectual property.
