An Inspired Chat with Marty Kish of Newport Beach

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Marty Kish. Check out our conversation below.

Marty, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
My first 90 minutes of the day are all about getting ahead of the curve before the sun comes up. I usually start by grabbing my phone (and coffee) and diving straight into my inbox. I scan through overnight messages, respond to anything urgent, and try to clear as much as possible so I’m not playing catch-up once I’m out the door. It’s a focused way to start the day.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a commercial real estate advisor with SEG Advisors, a Newport Beach firm specializing in development and advisory services. My focus is tenant representation, where I partner with retail brands and restaurant operators to guide them through site selection, lease negotiations, and strategic expansion plans. I love helping clients find the perfect locations. It’s fast-paced, detail-oriented work that combines market insight and negotiation.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
The moment that reshaped how I see the world was September 11, 2001. I was on my way to a trade show in Long Beach that morning and stopped to make some copies where I learned what had happened. I remember exactly where I was and the way the day unfolded in real time. Everything changed after that.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Never.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Family and friends.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m out on the water grabbing a few drinks. There’s something magical Newport Harbor and not being in a rush.
