An Inspired Chat with Joshwayy

Joshwayy shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Joshwayy, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately, I’ve been finding so much joy in creating meaningful spaces for connection! I recently had the opportunity to speak at my church (Generations Church) for a message I entitled ‘Relation-SHIP’—where I got to dive into the heart behind healthy relationships, real love, and what it means to stay anchored through the highs and lows. It was special because it wasn’t just a talk—it sparked real conversations and healing in people!

Then later that day, I also hosted a backyard festival called Casa de Wayy, and it was pure joy! I was recording a DJ set and it was just a celebration of life, music, and community. From deep conversations to dance circles, both moments reminded me how powerful it is when people come together! I often say “Life’s better when we do life together”.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey I’m Joshwayy — I’m a music producer, DJ and host who’s all about bringing people joy! What I do goes beyond just mixing tracks or Hosting events — I see it as creating spaces where people can let loose, feel uplifted, and remember what it’s like to truly have fun. In a world that can feel heavy, I love being the person who brings light, who reminds people that they’re allowed to dance, smile, and feel alive again. Whether I’m playing a festival, public speaking, or just hyping up a crowd, my heart is always for the people — and that’s what DRIVES everything I do… The Joshwayy

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that’s most shaped how I see myself is hands down my relationship with God. Truly understanding how deeply God loves us changed everything for me. It helped me realize that my identity, my worth, and my strength aren’t based on what I do or what’s happening around me — they’re rooted in something unshakable. That’s what gives me the joy and light I carry into every room. Even in tough seasons where I ‘should be’ down, He’s the one who lifts me up — and because of that, I want to be that light for others. That’s what fuels my passion for what I do. Whether I’m working on music, turning up a room or just showing up for people, I want others to feel that same sense of value, joy, and hope that I’ve found in Him

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
One of the biggest fears that’s held me back is the voice of the negative ‘what if.’ It’s that quiet but loud question that creeps in when you’re about to step into something new — ‘What if I fail?’ ‘What if no one listens?’ ‘What if people laugh?’ That kind of fear kept me from doing so much including releasing music for years. I had all these songs, all these dreams, but I let the ‘what ifs’ convince me to wait… Then I had to break free from that and I finally released my first tracks on my birthday last year.

Now, not only am I releasing music regularly, I’m even opening the door for others to live out their dreams too. My recent release “Freedom” features my good friend JESS (Jessenia), who’s always wanted to sing and share her voice with the world. Helping create space for someone else’s gift to shine has been just as meaningful as releasing my own music.

I realized I don’t want to live a life ruled by fear or regrets. Because for every negative ‘what if,’ there’s also a positive one — ‘What if it does work out?’ ‘What if you impact someone’s life?’ ‘What if this is the beginning of something amazing?’

Now, when I feel that fear rising, I remind myself: messing up isn’t the worst-case scenario — never trying is. I’d rather try, fall, get back up, and grow… than look back one day and wonder what could’ve been. That mindset has given me freedom to move forward with purpose, creativity, and joy

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
One of the core truths I live by — even if I don’t always put it into words — is that every single person deserves to feel seen, heard, and loved. That belief is foundational to how I treat people, how I move through spaces, and why I do what I do. Whether I’m playing a set or just hanging out after a show, I genuinely care about the people in the room.

I’ve been in seasons where I felt invisible or overlooked, and I know how deep that can cut. So now, I show up with the intention to make people feel like they matter. That could be through music, energy, encouragement, or just being present with someone in the moment.

To me, it’s not just about putting on a show — it’s about building a connection. And even if I never say it out loud, my hope is that people walk away feeling uplifted, valued, and reminded that they’re not alone.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When I’m gone, I hope people tell the story of someone who brought light into every room. Someone who didn’t just chase success, but genuinely cared about people — who made others feel seen, valued, and free to be themselves.

I want them to remember that I used my gifts to lift others up. That I showed up with joy, even in hard seasons. That I stayed rooted in love, not ego. That I chose to reflect God’s heart — not by being perfect, but by being present, real, and kind.

Whether it was through music, moments, or just conversations, I hope people say: ‘He made me feel like I mattered. He reminded me that there’s still good in this world. And he made life feel a little lighter.’

If that’s the legacy I leave, I’ll be at peace.
