An Inspired Chat with Heather Yesenia of South Central LA

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Heather Yesenia. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Heather, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Lately I’ve been looking at my past work from when I first started my artistic journey and a lot of it wasn’t great. The framing, exposure, the editing was so bad but it’s made me look at where I started and see the process of where I am today; my work has improved so much and the things I do now hold a greater meaning to me. I’m very proud of where I started and I’m proud of how I started with nothing but a passionate heart and a curious mind. I like how I learned everything on my own and on my own time; I grew as an artist and seen my work grow with me, every emotion or experience I’ve ever had in this life has shown in my work and I’m forever thankful for it all. I’m proud of my work, I’m proud of my journey and accomplishments but I know there’s still so much to grow in.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Heather Yesenia, I’m an actress, creative photographer, digital artist, and designer born and raised in South Central, LA. My journey began at a young age when I used to perform in school plays, but my passion for acting truly started at age 16 when I began a drama class. After high school I decided to pursue acting and since then I’ve been working on my craft; I’ve been blessed to work in award winning films, short films, theatre, and commercials. All these opportunities have allowed me to meet some of the most inspiring, hard working individuals in the business; my acting studio has also helped me develop a true love for art in general. My acting coach Mark McPherson at Studio 24/7 has created a great space for actors to come and explore their art; he is always willing to grow with his actors and meets you where you’re at in your journey; it helped me grow so much as an artist. This allowed me to explore other things I loved like photography which also began when I was 16 and I picked up a camera (mom’s phone camera). I’ve been doing photography since my early 20s and since then I haven’t put a camera down; I’ve recently began doing film photography which has been such a different and fun experience.

In late 2016, Shotsdeamorx was born which is the official name of my photography brand where I’m able to tell stories with some of the most beautiful, inspiring human beings. Today we have captured and created multiple pieces that have then inspired “Artdeamorx” which are digital art pieces inspired by my photographs and the tesoros in front of my camera. As of March 2025, 21Tesoros has slowly launched which is a brand that will represent me and showcase every part of my art; it represents everything I am and everything I live by. I hope to spread amor, positivity, inspiration and help others in any way I can. The goal has always been to create art and help people; and I hope with 21Tesoros I could do just that.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I used to believe I wasn’t capable of doing all the things I do now, I wasn’t talented enough, creative enough or worthy of the dreams my heart desired. I’m the only one in my family who’s pursued a career in the arts. As the oldest daughter I always felt different from my sisters because I never wanted to go to college or I didn’t choose a regular career. I’ve always been told from other family members how much time I would waste, I’ll never be happy and I’ll always be struggling; for a little while I began to believe them. The older I got the more I started to listen to my heart and passion, I stop being scared of taking chances or the fear of failure and I took the leap. I’m very happy I did, the younger version of me would be so proud of me; to see the artist I’ve become and all the things we’ve created since.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yesss, so many times mostly because life has been funny and it’s been throwing me the most random curve balls. I get it though “that’s life” and sometimes we’re going to be given certain situations that are gonna try to break us and that’s ok; it’s ok to cry about it and want to give up. It’s ok to feel that emotion but in all that we should always get back up; don’t sit on it for too long. No one said life was going to be easy, it’s unfortunately the most beautiful, difficult, craziest adventure you’ll ever be on. You’re going to have bad moments but remember that’s all they truly are…. a bad moment and like everything else it will pass. Some things will be harder to move forward from, some might take a day or two but regardless of the situation always remember a light is waiting for you on the other side; a piece of joy and love. It’s ok to want to give up, but please never give in, surround yourself with people who see you, hear you and love you with every piece of their heart. People who will pick you up when you feel like you can’t pick yourself up; people who will meet you where you’re at and help you get out. Life can be so hard and you will cry multiple times but at the same time it’s also beautiful, it’s filled with love, laughs and healing. You are worthy of all your dreams, you are worthy of this life’s greatest blessings; so please never give up because your blessings are coming. They’re going to be bigger and greater then what you’ve ever imagined my friend.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I think my closest friends would most likely say my family is what really matters to me and they would be 110% right because my family is everything to me. There isn’t a single day where I don’t think about them, my priority has and will always be them. I’m thankful for all the things they have given me, for their love, support and every beautiful moment we share. I wouldn’t of gotten this far in life or in my career if it wasn’t for them; they have saved me more then once and they continue to be there for me through every different stage. My family is an important piece of who I am, and I’m grateful to have them be part of my life.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people tell others about my struggles and the strength I found in every given situation; like everyone else my story isn’t easy. I’ve gone through a lot of pain and trauma but I’ve overcame a lot of that pain and I’ve healed so much. I want people to know that we are capable of overcoming anything, we were build to survive, grow and heal; we can build a life we’ve always wanted even if we had bad experiences. When you heal you become unstoppable, you become a listener and someone who’s truly at peace; my goal is to help others find their peace. We can all heal any negativity or trauma living within us; we just need to keep trying, find our purpose and seek that healing. Some days will be easy, some harder but overall we can build a new life and in helping ourselves we can then help others heal too.
