An Inspired Chat with chase lock of Downtown LA

We recently had the chance to connect with chase lock and have shared our conversation below.

chase, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is a normal day like for you right now?
At the moment it is, wake up at 6-6:30am, coffee, shower, head to studio and paint literally all day everyday.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Chase Lock, I am an artist out of Los Angeles, California. I primarily work with oil on canvas. I grew up in the graffiti world so I learned quite a bit of skills through graffiti. 2025 will be my 14th year as a full time artists, I had been painting long before that and just signed a contract with Avant Gallery in Miami Florida which has been amazing working with them. Keep on keepin on.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
I wouldn’t say there was a particular person who taught me. I used to race professional motocross and I’d say that’s what taught me, never give up, always try your hardest, learn how to loose before you learn how to win. Just having that mentality strong mind set and determination to be “YOUR” best no matter what and nothing is stopping you.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
The value of a dollar, who is truly your freinds and family.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
You bet your ass it is.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Definitely doing what I was born to do, paint art. It always felt like no one ever understood what I was doing, I’m not going to say they doubted me but I will say no one understood and couldn’t see the vision I was seeing. I told myself I would be my own boss and live my life the way I want to, no matter if no one believes in it or not. They simply just don’t understand and that’s ok.
