Bridget , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Playing piano. I could work Pinetop Perkins licks all day.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Bridget Connelly and I co-own and operate a vintage boutique and production studio called After Hours Vintage. We specialize in Old Hollywood opulence and rent our boutique out for photo shoots and video productions and our collection is available for purchase. We are located in the Fashion District of Downtown Los Angeles.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
My Dad had a huge influence on my work ethic. He was constantly scraping lead-based paint off of a baseboard or up on a ladder yanking families of dead chipmunks out of the gutters of our childhood Victorian home. There was no sitting around eating Cheetos watching Donahuel. I take after him in my love of manual labor. I dig the kind of jobs where you work up a sweat and crave a can of Old Style afterwards.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
No-one thinks you’re fat.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
Restaurant owners using unsightly QR codes as menus and the clientele that tolerate them. Please stop encouraging people to be on their phones. Bring back the menu!
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m fairly certain I was born to be surrounded by gold gilded serving carts, candelabras, and victorian fainting sofas, so I think I’m on the right track. I have never done what I’ve been told to do. Ask any of my school teachers or former employers.
