We recently had the chance to connect with Arturo Rey and have shared our conversation below.
Arturo, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I am most proud of building my brand and improving my quality of service, through hard work, perseverance, and a lot of patience, i have grown my 1 man Dj company into a Multi-Op premium event company. I now have 9 Nine DJ’s, 4 Photo Booth techs, Party Robots, and an entire crew that i depend on to deliver a perfect experience for our clients.
Its my responsibility to keep this company busy and to keep clients coming back, engaging with my clients and understanding their needs is a nonstop process. That never stops . Nobody sees the constant dedication to keep everyone happy, from my clients, to venues, and to all of my crew/staff. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Nobody sees the hours of loading and unloading equipment, testing new tech, and the hardest part are all of the bumps in the road that sometimes make this journey tough. Not everything is perfect and definitely not easy, but everyday is chance to learn and get that much better.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Arturo Rey and i am owner and operator of Massive Ent. We are a multi-op event company specializing in making your important day perfect and stress free. We provide dj’s, event hosts, atmospheric & dance lighting, photo booths, cold sparkler and low lying cloud effects. We have also added to our inventory LED Posters, LED Walls, and Party Robots
My dj/event company started out as just me carrying a crate of records into a backyard back in the late 90’s, often djing for friends and family for free. Slowly it grew into larger parties and bigger crowds and eventually my hard work led to me to an opportunity to actually tour with a spanish rap group for 5 years from 2003-2008. After that amazing opportunity to see the world and experience so many amazing moments, it was time to head home and to see what was next.
I returned to the world of mobile dj events and kind of just started all over again. Handing out business cards to venues and offering my services to dj and mc. Slowly the work began to come back to me and everything fell into place where i realized i had to take a step back and develop a team of event professionals.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I remember dj’ing at a club in 2000 and the club was a small intimate club, but the energy from every single person inisde that room was electric, you could almost feel the excitement. Being able to make so many people happy at the exact same time and just enjoy themselves with each record that i played was just so powerful. It was such a great feeling and I remember that night like it was yesterday.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me that success, money, is all temporary. Being a happy person and treating others with kindness and respect is what really makes us come together as good and decent people. Be a good person, be kind to others and work so hard that others see what you can do and the respect will come. Suffering is also humbling and puts into perspective what is important at the end of the day. Careers, relationships with friends and family, and our success is all based on how we treat others. It’s really not complicated, just don’t be a jerk and work hard for the level of success that you desire.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I want to build my company up so much that my crews can support their families and not have to worry about finances. Every single one of us always thinks of how we can provide for our families and i want to provide those opportunities. I want to be able to tell my staff not to worry, the next few months are going to be great. I want to establish an event company that pushes all of us to be the best that we can be for our clients. Instead of having a great month or two, i want to have an amazing year. I am committed to not only being successful myself , but I want everyone on our team can be successful.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop working and spend every single day with my family. I would spend every single day with my wife and daughters and make memories that they would never forget. The family that I have created is the most important thing in my world.
