An Inspired Chat with Alicia Savio

Alicia Savio shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Alicia, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
I lose track of time whenever I go to my art studio. I may go there just to get something and get drawn in by one of my paintings without realizing it. I’m mixing paint colors suddenly and find myself deep inside my canvas. It could be hours I’ve disappeared from my house with my family left wondering where I am.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Alicia Savio, a fine artist specializing in paintings and sculptures. I own Savio Studio in Northeast Pasadena Heights, which I open to the public once a year. I’m represented by Saatchi Art Gallery online and exhibit often at Baldwin Avenue Gallery in Sierra Madre, CA (The BAG). You can also see my artwork in your living room and buy prints on Samsung’s The Frame TV and LG digital art subscription services.
Currently, I’m working on a new series of sculptures inspired by Akhnaten, an opera based on the life and of the Egyptian pharaoh, written by the American composer Philip Glass, which is coming to the LA Opera at the Music Center’s Dorothy Chandler Pavillion in February and March of 2026.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
My Godfather taught me to love the theater when I was young. He took me to see opera and ballet at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Argentina- where I was born. My art is very expressive and theatrical.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I had a chance to talk to the young Alicia, I would tell her to always trust herself. Your intuition is always right- no regrets- it will pay off in the long run! I’ve been a fine artist my whole life and still enjoying it!

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
My current project of Akhnaten inspired sculptures was started during COVID in 2020 after seeing the Metropolitan Opera production online. I showed the first sculptures in this series at the Ontario Museum of Art during the pandemic as a virtual exhibit. Six years later, Akhnaten is coming to LA in first quarter of 2026, just as I’m ready to show my new series of artwork to the public.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
Stephen Sondheim said it best in “Sunday in the Park with George”, the musical based on the life of painter Georges Seraut: “Children and Art”… It’s the only thing we leave behind.
I’m most proud of my son Fabian Lacey, who is a Concept Designer nominated by The Art Directors Guild for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, The Mandalorian, Westworld, Black Panther and House of Imagination. He is my legacy, along with my collection of paintings and sculptures through the years.
I recently received a commendation from United States Senator Laphonza Butler, representing the State of California, for my contributions to The Laurel Foundation and my commitment to provide a safe environment for youth and families affected by HIV/AIDS. My sculptures and paintings were donated and auctioned at The Art of_ Bonhams Art Auctions and sold to art collectors in the Entertainment Industry.
