An Inspired Chat with Alex Robles of San Juan Capistrano

Alex Robles shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Alex, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Wake up around 7:00/7:30am. My dog is barking to be fed. Get up. Feed him. Make some coffee. Throw on YouTube music and start the day slow

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My story is full circle. From athlete to student to entrepreneur to brick and mortar business owner. 30 years of martial arts has taking me everywhere and it also brought me back to where I am today. I am the proud owner of SJTKD. A taekwondo studio in San Juan Capistrano, Orange County. CA

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Moments that help me see the world the way I do I definitely when I started doing solo travel abroad. I go to a country where I don’t know the language or customs, Switzerland. Austria, and Germany. And the people are kind. With all the ugly that polarized on the internet it’s good to see good people out in the world. Even tho we don’t speak the same language we can communicate through other means. It’s a beautiful thing

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell myself that it’s going to take a while to figure out who you are and to enjoy the exploration. From martial artist, to touring / playing music, to trail running, playing soccer to whatever else sparked my interest. One thing doesn’t have to encompass your entire personality. Be curious. Do all the things. And do them well and enjoy the people you meet along the journey.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
At work I have to be a figure head. It’s a version of me. I’m more introverted and solo outside of the public.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I 100% feel at peace when I’m in the mountains hiking or trail running with my dog. It’s quiet, it’s beautiful, it’s challenging. It’s everything I need to disconnect and just be happy.
