Rising Stars: Meet Josey of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josey .

Josey

Hi Josey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started off with dance at 4 years old. I always loved performing, around 9 years old I got involved in church choir and in middle school I was in Choir and Theatre. I started writing songs and playing guitar at 11 years old. I would say I got to where I am now by never giving up and being eager to learn and gain experience. I did it all community theatre, local competitions, studied music in college, Many auditions for singing shows, booking my own shows, music conferences. You name it, I have probably tried it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a smooth road, haha. I would say some challenges along the way were my stage fright in the beginning. I remember i was too scared to audition for the school talent show or a solo for the choir concert. I wanted it so bad but auditioning Infront of my peers was a nightmare. I would consider myself a late bloomer but the more you do something, the less scary it is. Another challenge was not really having a road map, I’m the first musical person in my family really, so I had to figure out a lot of things on my own.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a soul pop artist, songwriter, model, actress and content creator. All around creative, In my music I focus on the truth, joy and being bold. I have a new song that drops on 11/15 called Apple Body Girls! I’m really proud of this song, its very anthemic and body positive. I hope it reaches everyone who needs to hear it!

I got to be apart of the music video as well and its so iconic! Filming the music video was such a magical day surrounded by such great community and love. Its been amazing seeing the song connect with so many people. Seeing music i was apart of help lift up and inspire others is everything.

I specialize in being myself and I want others to feel good being themselves as well. I think that’s what sets me apart as well. I’m not afraid to say the quiet part out loud. I’m not trying to be ” the next” anybody. I just wanna be me, the first and one & only Josey!

How do you define success?
Ooh this is a good question. I define success by growth and reaching those goals/dreams. At the end of the day true success to me is also being happy. Being truly satisfied with your life, from both sides career and personal is top tier.
