Check Out Cyrus Naderpour’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cyrus Naderpour

Hi Cyrus, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Rome to parents who were political refugees, and at the ripe old age of two I immigrated to the US. I grew up in Montgomery County Maryland right outside of DC, and later attended college at the University of Maryland College Park, where I got an Accounting Degree. After two years as an accountant I decided accounting wasn’t for me, so I left MD and moved to Los Angeles. Shortly after moving to LA I got a job in tech. My comedy career begun with a snowboarding accident. In my late 20s I got into a snowboarding accident and separated my shoulder. While I was in an opioid induced haze recovering from my shoulder injury I watched a lot of standup. One day I thought to myself I could totally do that. I took a standup class shortly there after and the rest is history. After I performed in my first show I told myself I was gonna save up a bunch of money quit my day job and pursue comedy full time. In 2014 I quit my very lucrative career in tech to do be full time standup comedian. In 2016 I started a traveling dark comedic Variety show with a friends of mine called Tuesday and Cyrus present Freak Show and together we grew the show from nothing to a very successful touring show. We were in 12 cities in 3 states and performed at notable venues such as the Globe Theater, Punchline SF, all of the California Improvs, Oxnard Levity Live, and we had a Summer Vegas Residency in Vegas. During the Pandemic the touring show came to an end, and I decided to focus on creating web content. I now have over 80k followers on IG and 50k+ followers on TikTok. Earlier this year I wrapped up season 3 of a podcast I cohosted with my friend Franklin Marshall III called the Franklin and Cyrus Podcast. In the summer of 2024 I started producing long form web content. I created the Cyrus News Network a political satire show.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s definitely not been a smooth road, At time finances have been tough supporting yourself as an artist is never easy. I went into pursuing the arts full time with a nest egg from my corporate job, but I quickly blew through all of that. I have odd jobs that ranged from delivery guy at a weed company to doing bubble shows at a kids birthday party. Now I can support myself with money from content creation as well as I make money as a social media consultant. The other major struggle is breaking through the noise and being seen. So many people are working on so many projects, but luckily I have been able to find an audience for my work on the web.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I take pride in my ability to make any topic funny. It’s very easy to get attention by being an edge lord and say outlandish statements for the heck of it. It’s much harder to turn a dark topic into something that is funny that bring people joy through laughter, I take great pride in the ability to do the latter. I’m really proud of the political comedy I created on the Cyrus News Network. Most political comedy really feeds into the echo chambers of the right or left, I really wanted to make political satire that had fresh new takes that mocked both sides of the political aisle. I think the average American is tired of being fed divisive takes from both sides of the aisle, and really crave a neutral point of view that highlights the absurdity of our political system. The last thing I’m know for are history jokes, I fell into the niche of making jokes, about history, armor, and military tactics, and making content for that audience has brought me a lot of joy.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
The best thing about LA is that it has everything. You can have food from pretty much anyplace in the world, do pretty much and activity you want, and there is every kind of person imaginable is here. You have so many options in this town that you can really create whatever kind of life you want out here.

What I like least is that the city can be very isolating. Everything is so spread out, that its very easy to slip into the habit of saying its too much of hassle to leave your little bubble and stick to your routines and not venture out. Between driving around everywhere and the convivences of technology, if you are not careful you can go for days without having real face to face interactions with a human being. Sure you can connect with lots of people via text, DMs, and zoom calls but your quality of life infinitely increases when you have a healthy does of actual human interaction.
