Today we’d like to introduce you to Irene Bremis
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always loved imitating people in my extended Greek family for generational entertainment, and I would be the holiday hit. I also learned that humor is a great way to make friends, uplift people, and work through personal struggles. Being a standup comic is not only rewarding, it’s cathartic. I love connecting with audiences and getting to know them just as much as they’re getting to know me.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life is a labyrinth; we must reroute and find a way out with each obstacle. Many career setbacks have been within and outside my control. Personal struggles have also impeded my progress. As the late great Joan Rivers said, “I wish I could tell you it gets better. It doesn’t get better. YOU get better.” And that’s the truth! With each career and life struggle. We become stronger.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a standup comedian. I’ve always loved writing jokes, which comes quickly to me. I’m most proud of my ability to humorously advocate for social injustices even in the most diverse crowds. I love connecting with the audience, and I fully embrace taking risks. It’s important to feel uncomfortable before you can grow and find your voice and fanbase.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I think it’s imperative for growth. You will remain dwarfed if you don’t step out of your comfort zone. Taking risks builds muscle. You become more assertive, stronger and intrepid. Failure is inevitable, but so is stamina, character, and finding your voice.
