Today we’d like to introduce you to Lori J. Posner.
Lori, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started YES on a dream and a small credit card loan. I moved to Los Angeles from my hometown, New York City, where I worked in the gourmet food business. I had a vision to create one of a kind, curated communique’ and a passion for art, design and beautiful objects and followed my instinct.
Born and raised in New York City, I studied at Northeastern University in Boston, The New School for Social Research and Parsons School of Design before diving into the entrepreneurial creative design world. My career evolution from freelance stylist and art director to agency founder began with a love of art, culture, design and an astute business sense. Applying innovative marketing tactics and creative collaborations, I built businesses including a gourmet food branding agency for private label brands and cultivated the first wave of upscale coffee bars in NYC, providing her own product line and consulting expertise to a number of companies including specialty food purveyor, Dean & Deluca and national retailer, Barnes & Noble.
I founded YES in 1998 in Los Angeles. Originating groundbreaking entertainment campaigns and packaging design for networks and cable entities vying for Emmy® awards, YES quickly became one of LA’s premier creative firms. Nearly two decades later with offices in Los Angeles and New York, YES is an award-winning, creative agency renowned for innovative and strategic advertising, branding and design serving clients across a broad range of industries.
Has it been a smooth road?
Advertising and design is a highly competitive field and the brands and categories we serve are equally competitive.
The hyper-driven pace of change and shifts in the media landscape, platforms and social sphere have had some of the biggest impact over the course of the past decade (and minute). When I first started, it was a challenge as a small agency to compete for business against large and established agencies. That has shifted. Brands and clients now embrace and seek out smaller agencies like YES where by definition the business model has less layers, more cost efficiencies and more flexibility in arriving at a winning strategy and great creative — the ability for clients to dial direct and have confidence that their needs will be met is welcomed.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Yes Design Group story. Tell us more about the business.
An award-winning, creative-driven agency specializing in advertising, branding and design YES was founded by agency principal and president, Lori J. Posner in Los Angeles in 1998 and serves a broad range of industries.
My background as an art director and ability to create high concept ideas, enlist exceptional talent to collaborate and bring strategy and creative to life, and flawless delivery are differentiators for YES. Our ability to consistently innovate and commitment to the highest level of service for our clients is also a mainstay of our culture — whatever the challenge, we begin and end with YES. I’m most proud of our team here at YES.
Industry innovators, YES continues to raise the bar creating multi-platform FYC campaigns (print, digital, dimensional, video, social, viral), brand launches and award-winning, dimensional invitations (CBS Paramount Television, Entertainment Tonight/People Magazine, InStyle, The Golden Globes®, TV Guide, Forbes Celebrity 100 Event). As well, YES DESIGN GROUP provides advertising, branding, marketing and design expertise for clients across a range of categories including automotive, corporate communications, entertainment, fashion, financial, health care, non-profit, travel and hospitality, retail product and packaging.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
While all things digital as well as content remain king…we are starting to see an overload in the digital landscape. This is bringing some of our clients back to print, dimensional design and packaging. We are innovators in the dimensional space and while we have embraced new technologies we still love our packaging and print collateral work. We are beginning to see the return and need for a physical keepsake to support our digital efforts.
