Daily Inspiration: Meet Andrea Nittoli

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Nittoli

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started very young in this business. Both of my parents were entertainers, so they started me in music and acting in commercials as a child. Music was my first love and eventually wound up being the lead singer in a band and toured the United States and was even in a lounge band in Vegas all before I was 21 years old. It was a great education.

After that I found my way into the acting business and eventually came to Hollywood to pursue it full-time. I was in several TV shows and films-such as “Married with Children” and “The Practice”. I reached a point where I knew that I wanted to work in the entertainment business, but I didn’t feel like acting was the right path for me. I had worked at CAA as an assistant and I loved it. People in the business had told me for years, I would be a great talent manager-and after my manager split with his partner, I went to work with him. Immediately I knew I found the thing I was looking for. I love actors and being a manager allows me to use all of my experience to help others succeed. I recently joined The Green Room and we have such a great team there! In 2013 I got to be a part of the film “Once upon a time in Queens”, I got to wear 2 hats, I acted in the film opposite Paul Sorvino and Michael Rapaport and then had a hand in producing too. After that I went on to create and produce a prank show in Vegas and most recently started a production company with my producing partner Erich Schwer, called Northeast Pictures and we submitted our first short documentary to Sundance entitled “Waiting for Sinatra” the true story of the song ‘Here’s to the Band”. Next up is a romcom called “True North” that I wrote and will direct. I am very excited about the future for Northeast Pictures, we have some great projects that we are really excited about! As a talent manager this time around I am keeping my roster really small so that I can be the kind of hands on manager that I like to be.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My life was definitely not a smooth road. I grew up in a lot of chaos and quit school at 15. I had kids young and by the time I was 21 I had 2 kids and no support from their father, so I was really on my own. I struggled with addiction early in my life and I have had an eating disorder since I was very young. Financially I have always struggled, being a single mom with no financial support and still trying to chase my dreams has been very challenging.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have always been creative, and I have always had good business sense and sometimes those things can be in conflict. But as a producer I look for the stories that need to be told, instead of just focusing on what will sell. As a producer I look for talent I believe in but I am very tough as a manager too. I expect the actors I work with to remain in class and study their craft. As an actor who studied at The Beverly Hills Playhouse under Allen Barton and Art Cohan I saw what consistent training can do and how we can always be growing. The entertainment business to me is like the NFL you have to be the best, and you have to always be training. I think what sets me apart as a manager is I know what it’s like to be an actor, so I know the pitfalls and I can understand what they are going through on a personal level. I also have a close relationship with the people I represent, they know they can call me or text me and I try to meet up for coffee when I can.
Show business can be kind of crazy sometimes and unpredictable so for me my anchor has always been my family. I talk to my dad and cousins in New Jersey regularly and I spend a lot of time with my daughter, my son, my daughter-in-law and my two beautiful grandsons. Sometimes I’m all dressed up and on a red carpet and sometimes I have my hair in a bun and no make up and I’m rolling around on the floor with my grandsons. Life is beautiful, and I am very blessed!

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I love content, and I love podcasts…there are so many good ones. I love the podcasts, The Screen Writing Life, Smartless and Andrew Huberman. I have recently joined Masterclass and I am really enjoying taking online classes from the pros like Jodie Foster and Martin Scorcese. My guilty pleasure is reality TV-I love to watch the shows and listen to the podcasts too.
