Today we’d like to introduce you to Aviva
Hi AViVA, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started writing songs when I was in high school, but didn’t do anything with them. I knew I always wanted to be a musician.
I started the AViVA project with Matais in 2013 and we realised our single GRRRLS in 2017.
GRRRLS went viral on YouTube and that changed everything for us from that point.
I knew I wanted to do things ‘my way’ whatever that means! But it made it hard for me to find a label that felt right. So we ended up being independent and I still release all my music independently to this day. I think these days we’re lucky as creatives to be able to reach audiences without the necessity to ‘sell our souls’ to do it. I’ve got over 10 Billion – with a B- streams on my music so if you work hard enough you can achieve great things.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing worthwhile is ever easy.
I’ve had to weed out a lot of difficult relationships with managers, and song writers over the years. I find that within the industry there are always a lot of people who are interested in themselves and use artists as tools to get to where they want to get. At first I took a lot of that stuff personally, but now I have my tight knit group and forget about the posers.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Im most proud of the gold and platinum records I have! I’m also very proud of the new music that is coming out, I think I’ve really developed my own genre and style and that keeps getting richer over time. I also have a young adult novel series that pairs with my first 3 albums. I’m so proud of that, and currently working on the third book of the series.
I wanted to create a fully immersive world for my fans to live in, and writing prose has always been a passion for me. I’m so proud I’m now a published author.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I don’t have one memory, I was lucky to have a wonderful colourful and creative childhood- filled with music, and love and the outdoors.
One salient memory would have to be listening, and singing along to Frank Sinatra in the car on summer road trips with my grandparents.
