Life & Work with Emily Blair of Los Angeles, CA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Blair

Hi Emily, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started doing hair at the age of 18, working in a small salon in my hometown in Maryland. I eventually made my way to San Francisco and trained in the top salons in the city. I moved to LA in 2020 with the idea of working editorials and on celebrity clients. Now I own a business and work solo with amazing salon clients, when Im not in the salon I work on sets with clients. Its been a long journey but has been worth it,

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been smooth, the first six years I was learning so much still. Hair is so complex it takes years to really hone in on your confidence and skill sets. I had many people tell me I wasn’t good enough and many people standing in my way of success. At the end of the day the best thing to do is stay humble and move through the motions and learn all that you can from every experience.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a hairstylist known for my color and haircuts. I am most proud of my commitment to myself in this industry and evolvement. I have really dipped my toes in most parts of this industry and love every part. I think what sets me apart from others is my way of educating my clients on the pros and cons of certain hair colors / hair cuts / and maintenance. I love having a collaborative environment with my clients, they are the creative directors and I am the hands that can make their ideas come to life.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Ouf, hard question. Maybe that I come from a small town? I left when I was young and never looked back. We literally had “bring your tractor to school day” in high school. All the farm kids would start driving to school at 5am to make it on time.
