Today we’d like to introduce you to Lida Mehrabi
Hi Lida, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in Tehran, Iran, where my journey in the beauty industry began 23 years ago. I started working as a hairstylist and quickly fell in love with the craft. After just a year of working for someone else, I knew I wanted to build something of my own. I opened a small hair and beauty salon in Tehran, offering hair, eyebrow, and makeup services.
What started as a modest space quickly grew beyond my expectations. In short period of time, I expanded the salon into a full-service beauty and wellness destination, offering everything from haircuts and color to facials, nails, makeup, and spa treatments. Managing a team of 40 stylists and staff was both challenging and rewarding, and it gave me invaluable experience in running a thriving business.
Thirteen years ago, I made the life-changing decision to immigrate to the United States. One of my first goals upon arriving was to get my cosmetology license, and I did just that. After receiving my license, I worked at a few hair salons across Los Angeles and also took on freelance projects with actors, singers, and busy professionals. Those experiences allowed me to build my reputation and hone my skills further.
In 2021, I opened my own salon here in Beverly Grove area of Los Angeles, Lida Beauty Salon Los Angeles. My dream was to create a space where every client feels pampered, confident, and beautiful. Drawing on my years of experience, I’ve combined the luxury elements I developed back in Tehran with the vibrant style and creativity I’ve encountered in LA. Today, we specialize in everything from hair coloring and highlights to extensions, bridal hair, and makeup, offering a personalized touch for every client who walks through our doors.
It’s been an incredible journey so far, and I feel grateful to continue doing what I love every day, helping people feel beautiful and confident.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Building a business from the ground up in one country and then leaving it all behind to start over in a new one has been one of the biggest challenges of my life. In Tehran, I put my heart and soul into growing my salon. It took years to establish a reputation and build a loyal clientele. Expanding from a small salon to a large beauty center with 40 staff was rewarding, but it required constant hard work, especially in a competitive market. Just when it felt like everything was finally thriving, I made the difficult decision to immigrate to the U.S. to pursue new opportunities.
When I arrived in Los Angeles, I had to start all over again. Even with over a decade of experience, it felt like I was back at square one. Getting my cosmetology license was the first hurdle, but the bigger challenge was proving myself in an unfamiliar market. I had to build new relationships, learn the business landscape, and understand the unique style preferences of LA’s diverse clientele. There were moments when I wondered if I had made the right choice.
Working in various salons and freelancing with actors and professionals gave me valuable insight, but it took time to rebuild the trust and reputation I once had in Iran. Being an immigrant business owner came with its own set of challenges—everything from navigating language barriers to understanding local regulations. It required patience, persistence, and, most importantly, a lot of humility.
When I opened my salon here in 2021, I knew the path would still be tough, especially with the challenges of a post-pandemic world. But I leaned on my past experiences, and little by little, things began to fall into place. What kept me going through it all was my passion for what I do and my belief that beauty is universal. Now, looking back, I see those struggles as stepping stones. Each challenge taught me something new, and I’m proud of the business I’ve built here in Los Angeles.
We’ve been impressed with Lida Beauty LA , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At my salon, we specialize in creating customized beauty experiences tailored to each client’s unique needs and style. We offer a full range of services, from expert hair coloring, highlights, and balayage to extensions, precision haircuts, and blowouts. Our beauty services extend beyond hair—we also provide professional makeup and bridal hair and makeup to ensure our clients look and feel their best for every occasion. Whether it’s a special event or routine self-care, our goal is to deliver luxury and precision in every service.
What sets us apart is our personalized approach. Every client receives a consultation designed to understand their lifestyle, preferences, and hair goals. We take the time to recommend treatments and styles that fit their needs, ensuring they walk out feeling confident and beautiful. Our team combines years of expertise with creativity, keeping up with the latest trends while prioritizing the health of our clients’ hair.
We’re proud to serve a diverse clientele from the Beverly Grove area, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Hancock park and beyond, including some clients in San Fernando Valley and Orange County, including professionals, creatives, and bridal clients. What makes us truly unique is the blend of international experience I bring from my time in Tehran, where I managed a full-service beauty salon and spa with 40 staff members. I’ve infused that experience with the vibrant, fashion-forward energy of Los Angeles to create a space that feels warm, luxurious, and welcoming.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the trust we’ve built with our clients. We’ve become known for our attention to detail and personalized care, with clients returning not just for great hair but for the experience we provide. It’s not just about beauty—it’s about helping people feel their best and creating a space where they feel valued and cared for.
If there’s one thing, I want readers to know, it’s that our salon isn’t just a place to get a haircut or color—it’s a place to unwind, feel pampered, and leave feeling your absolute best. We’re committed to offering the highest level of care and expertise, whether you’re coming in for a root touch-up, extensions, or bridal styling for your big day.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Most people who work with me know me as someone who is serious, focused, and highly professional when it comes to my work. But what they might not realize is that outside the salon, I’m the kind of person who loves to joke around and have fun. I enjoy light-hearted moments, and I believe life is about balancing hard work with laughter and joy.
Another thing many clients don’t know is the full scope of my journey in this industry. Before coming to the U.S., I built and ran a successful salon in Tehran, starting with just a few services and growing it into a large beauty salon and spa with 40 staff members. I’m also proud of the fact that I was invited to train and educate other professionals in hair coloring, styling, and makeup across Iran, Turkey, and Dubai. Sharing my knowledge with others and mentoring upcoming beauty professionals was one of the most rewarding parts of my career. It’s a chapter of my life that not many people know about, but it shaped me into the stylist and business owner I am today.
