Life & Work with Yasir Alani

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yasir Alani

Hi Yasir, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey to acting was not a straight path. It began with a love for storytelling, sparked by watching Hollywood movies as a kid in Syria. Back then, I was fascinated by how stories could transport you to different worlds and offer a sense of hope. Growing up in a place of conflict, I craved that escape and always imagined myself being part of those worlds.

However, life took me in different directions first. I worked as a linguist, navigating complex environments and bridging communication gaps. While those experiences were invaluable and taught me discipline, teamwork, and perseverance, I knew there was something more I needed to pursue.

After, I spent some time searching for my purpose. Then one night, while watching The Big Bang Theory, I decided to take an acting class. After performing my first scene, I knew I had found where I truly belonged. Acting felt like coming home—it gave me the creative outlet I had been searching for, allowing me to explore different sides of myself and bring characters’ stories to life.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Oh no, the road to acting has definitely not been smooth, and I’m still very much on the journey. One of the biggest challenges has been allowing myself to be vulnerable. Coming from a background where strength and resilience were key, it took time to break down those emotional barriers and let myself truly feel—something essential for any actor. It’s a constant process of learning to express raw emotions, and that’s what keeps me pushing forward.

Rejection is also a big part of this industry. I haven’t landed many roles yet, but I view each “no” as a stepping stone toward something bigger. Every audition, whether successful or not, is an opportunity to grow. I remain hopeful and focused on bettering myself—not just as an actor, but as a person. I’m still pursuing my dream, committed to the journey, and embracing the process with all the challenges it brings.

We’d love to learn more about your work. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
When it comes to my work as an actor, I’m still carving out my place in the industry, but I’ve been fortunate enough to be part of a few short films. These opportunities have given me valuable hands-on experience in the filmmaking process, and I’m deeply grateful for each one. Every project has been a chance to challenge myself, explore different characters, and grow as both an actor and a storyteller.

What sets me apart is the range of experiences I’ve had throughout my life. I’ve been through a lot, and I can often relate a script to something I’ve experienced one way or another. Whether it’s portraying an emotional scene or a character overcoming adversity, I draw from those real-life moments to bring depth and authenticity to my performances.

For me, acting isn’t just about playing a role— it’s about finding those connections within myself and using them to make the character’s journey real. It’s an opportunity to connect with people through stories that matter and resonate on a deeper level.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What really brings me happiness is connecting with people—especially family and those I care about. I believe human connection is essential, and I enjoy taking the time to truly understand others, whether through meaningful conversations or shared experiences.

I also find joy in learning something new, like a different culture or language. It’s exciting to expand my horizons and gain new perspectives. For me, happiness is all about growth and connection—both with the people around me and the world as a whole.
